In Windows XP/2003, we can use Group Policy to turn off the restore function of the system. As we all know, Windows XP/2003 has a powerful system restore function, which backs up files and data that have been changed while the system is running. When problems occur, the system restore function can restore the system without losing data and restore the computer to its previous state. And by default, System Restore is on. But there are some disadvantages to doing so, such as reducing system performance and taking up hard disk space. If you don't want this restore function, you can turn it off. Open Turn off System Restore in Group Policy Console → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → System Restore and enable this policy. Enabling this setting turns off System Restore and prevents access to the System Restore Wizard and Configuration Interface. Of course, this time we must be careful operation, otherwise in the wrong operation and can not restore the information.

Disable Messenger from running automatically

There are many integrated software in Windows XP/2003 system, usually some software also automatically set up automatic operation function, sometimes it will give us a lot of trouble. Messenger is a typical software, we can set it not to run automatically, and then open it when needed. Open "Do not allow Windows Messenger to run" in "Group Policy Console → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates →Windows Components → Windows Messenger" and enable this policy.

Turn off thumbnail cache

Windows XP/20003 system has thumbnail view function, for example, we open a folder, select thumbnail, you can see the inside of the picture about, in fact, in order to speed up those frequently browsed thumbnail display speed, the system will be these displayed pictures cache, so that the next time you open directly read the cache information, so as to achieve the purpose of fast display. But this slows things down in some ways and takes up hard drive space. You can turn it off if you don't need it. Open "Turn off caching of thumbnails" in Group Policy Console → User Configuration → Administrative Templates →Windows Components →Windows Explorer and enable this policy.

Increase Internet speed

By default, Windows Network Connection Packet Scheduler limits the system to 80% of the connection bandwidth, which is somewhat undesirable. We can use group strategy to speed up the Internet. Open QoS Packet Scheduler in Group Policy Console → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Network and enable this policy, then use the Bandwidth Limit box below to adjust the proportion of bandwidth that the system can reserve, set it to 0%, and then press OK to exit, after which we can use the other 20% bandwidth, which makes full use of resources.

Prevent Windows Media Player from running screensavers while playing

At some point, while we were watching a movie, the computer suddenly went into screensaver mode. It was really annoying. Now we can solve the screensaver by group strategy so that it doesn't bother us anymore. Open Group Policy Console → User Configuration → Administrative Templates →Windows Components → Windows Media Player → Allow Screen Savers to Run in Play and set it to Disabled state.
