AIP(Azure Information Protection) Part 4: Protecting Other Files

The last article introduced the protection of Office files, in fact, AIP now also began to support non-Microsoft files, although not many, such as: PDF, JPG, jif, etc., but the daily office use is basically enough!

The following table lists a subset of file types that support native protection provided by the Azure Information Protection client and can be categorized.

Below we take a PDF file as an example to test.

First, right-click on the file to be protected and select Category Protection.

In the AIP information protection window, select authorized users or groups, which can be multiple. The semicolon in the middle of the email address can also set a time limit, that is, the file is allowed to be opened within the limited date. After expiration, the file becomes invalid and cannot be opened. After configuration, click Apply.

Configuration complete!

Found that the PDF file under the original path has become.PPDF

Double-click to automatically open the file with Azure Information Protection Viewer!

Send protected files by email or other means. When the other party receives the protected files (provided that the AIP client program is installed), it will prompt for the corresponding account password to verify (via Azure AD).

After verification, you can view the protected PDF file content through Azure Information Protection Viewer. Users have no right to print or save the file!

You can use the View permission to display specific permissions you have.

As mentioned in the previous two files, screenshots and screenshots cannot be taken!

Similarly, we can also directly batch protect folders, right-click on folders, category protection, set permissions, and apply them.

After the application is completed, a PDF and a TXT file under the folder become PPDF/PTXT by themselves.

View it the same way as a single file, double-clicking automatically opens the file using Azure Information Protection Viewer! If there are unsupported files in the directory, when these files are protected, the suffix name will change to.pfile, and there will be no change for files such as.exe.

Double-clicking Open will open Azure Information Protection Viewer first, prompting that the file is protected and should comply with the following permissions.

Then use the corresponding program to open it. However, after the file is opened, it can still be modified, copied, printed, etc., and is not forcibly protected!
