Peter, Senior Global Product Manager of Huawei? Peter Gordon said Huawei's Sun Hung Meng system was a "future-oriented operating system". Excitedly, Hongmeng systems for smartwatches and laptops sold outside China may be involved in the near future.

Gordon spoke to Digital Trends and other reporters at a new software briefing in London, where he discussed the complexity of Hongmeng's system and how it could potentially shape the future of the company's products.

Why would he say that? After all, the Hongmeng system is here now. If you are in China, the first product with software, Glory Visual Smart screen, will be available soon. To understand, we need to understand Huawei's goal here, which is to help us all communicate more effectively using many connected products, from televisions and fitness products to smart speakers and smartphones. Gordon calls it a "seamless artificial intelligence life", which is also closely related to other major Huawei projects, such as 5G and the latest mobile user interface EMUI10.

At present, many of the software used in these networking products are not designed for free communication, Gordon said. This is an alternative isolation software that makes it difficult to create a seamless experience of sharing information across devices, and sometimes even more difficult products.

Hongmeng system is a "future-oriented operating system".

Gordon concluded that Hongmeng is "a single operating system that covers everything and applies to all product types."

The operating system is designed to open communication regardless of the device. Huawei said that by using the microkernel system, Hongmeng system is secure, which is an issue to consider when dealing with Internet of things hardware. With Huawei's Ark compiler, programming languages can be translated so that applications can work with Hongmeng, including Android apps, simplifying adoption by third-party developers. It is even smart and adaptive and will correctly display on different screen sizes, just like an adaptive mobile site, so it will work on your car and TV without embarrassment.

Huawei's "seamless artificial intelligence life" is not a particularly unusual goal. From Apple to Microsoft, many companies want to "own" your connected life. However, Huawei does not want to own Hongmeng system, but opts for open source software. Gordon called Huawei the sponsor of Harmony House, not the owner.

This is not a new project for the company, which has been developed for a decade, and Gordon does not expect it to be mature in the next five to ten years. Putting Hongmeng system in this context can clarify that this is a description of future software. In addition to continuous development, it also aims to connect products for the next generation, making it possible to introduce 5G more widely. Does this mean that it will not have much impact?

"it's designed for use on current devices," Gordon said of the software, which is demonstrated by the open source nature, not just Huawei.

He could not say whether there had been any discussions with other manufacturers, but he said it was still an early stage of the platform.

Mr Gordon said the first Hongmeng products installed outside China were likely to include smartwatches and laptops. Huawei has its own smartwatch operating system LiteOS, whose elements have been absorbed by the microkernel of Hongmeng's system. Recently, this means that the sequel to the watch GT may be related to the Hongmeng system. Notebooks are another successful product category for Huawei. Currently, they use Microsoft's Windows operating system.

The battle between Huawei and the US government has put Hongmeng system in the spotlight. I can't seem to get the right license plate. Maybe one day it won't be able to use Google Android or Microsoft Windows. Hongmeng system not only solved Huawei's problems, but also solved many of the problems we encountered when connecting products.

Will it be installed on Huawei smartphone? Gordon responded to Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Commercial Group, saying that when Hongmeng system could run on mobile phones, it would not. Android is still Huawei's focus, and Android will still be integrated with it even if other Huawei products run Hongmeng.

Huawei hopes to achieve seamless docking through software, but requires physical activity to start shaking hands. Huawei has installed Huawei Share and OneHop data sharing functions on its newly launched Mate Book laptop, which can send images and files from the phone to PC with a simple click.

It would be easy and almost understandable if Huawei struggled under the pressure of a US government ban and a trade war between China and the US. But this is not the case. The Hongmeng system is continuing evidence of the company's confidence in itself and its future. Hongmeng system not only connects future devices, but also shapes the company's future according to its own vision, rather than forcing it.
