OVF template: is an open, common, and secure virtual machine compression format, typically using templates with the .ova extension. OVF templates can be operated on multiple major virtualization platforms.

VSphere Data Protection: referred to as VDP, is a new generation of disk-based backup and recovery solution launched by VMware and EMC through technical collaboration. It is reliable and easy to deploy, replacing the previous VDR and VCB; fully integrated with VCenter Server, and can be used to perform efficient centralized management of backup jobs while storing backups on deduplicated target storage.

There are two versions of vSphere Data Protection, which are:

VDP: supports storage space for up to 100 virtual machines and 2TB only

VDP Advanced: supports storage space for up to 400 virtual machines and 8TB, as well as application replication, the ability to restore to granularity on Microsoft Server, and guest-level backup and recovery for SQL server, Exchange Server, and SharePoint Server.

VDP Advanced requires a license to use it.

Preparation before deployment:

Deploy NTP time server (synchronize the time of DC and ESXi hosts to prevent errors due to time inconsistency, it is recommended to install on DC server); create "forward lookup zone" and "reverse lookup zone" of VDP server on DNS server

Deployment steps:

First, deploy NTP time server

1. Open the registry

2. Set to NTP server type.

Modify the login file: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ W32Time\ Parameters"

3. Set the authorization time server

Modify the login file: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ W32Time\ Config"

[AnnounceFlags] modify the set value to 5

4. Enable NTP server

Modify the login file: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ W32Time\ TimeProviders\ NtpServer"

The value of [Enabled] is modified to 1

5. Restart Windows Time service

Open the start menu and enter "CMD" in command line mode:

Net stop w32time & & net start w32time # restart the win32time service.

Issues to pay attention to:

1. Set the W32Time service startup mode to automatic in the system service.

2. Make sure that the firewall allows UDP123 port access.

Open the UDP:123 port

Open the start menu and enter "CMD" in command line mode:

Netsh firewall add portopening protocol = UDP port = 123name = NTPSERVER

Configure an esxi host as a NTP client

1. Log in to vcenter server through web client

2. Enable the esxi command line

Press alt+f1 to switch the command interface

3. Modify esxi configuration file

Add VDP server parsing information manually on the DNS server

Navigate to vcenter, open the permissions tab in the Management tab, and click the add permissions button.

Click the add button to add a specific user, select a domain administrator, click user administrator, and then click add and change the user's role permissions from unauthorized access to administrator click OK.

Deploy the OVF template for VDP

1. Right-click the esxi host, and click deploy OVF template in the pop-up menu

1. Start the VDP virtual machine, if you fail to start the power

Adjust the number of CPU according to the actual situation
