I. Introduction

WDS is Windows Deployment Services, mainly applied to the mass deployment of computer operating systems in large and medium-sized networks. By using WDS, you can manage images and unattended installation scripts, and provide a way for manual and unattended installations to greatly increase the speed of operating system deployment.

II. Experimental environment

(1)Server2016 virtual machine (as server)

(2) Windows 10 virtual machine (as client)

III. Start configuration

(1) Configure DHCP

1, first modify the computer host name, in order to install the system later to facilitate preparation.

2. Configure IP address for server.

3. Next configure WDS service, click Server Manager, click Add Role and Function.

Click Next, click Next, click Add DHTP Services, and click Windows Services Deployment.

5. Click Next, and then click Install.

6. After installation, we open DHTP service in Windows administration tool.

7. Double-click to expand, right-click IPV4, and create a new scope.

Click Next to create a domain name.

9. Click Next to set IP address.

10. We don't need to set the exclusion address. To simplify the experiment, click Next.

11. The rental period defaults to 8 days. Click Next.

12. Configure DHCP option, default option, click Next.

13. Set the gateway to 192.168.100.1, click Add, and click Next.

Set DNS address, add a DNS address, because we do not configure DNS.

15. Wins service does not need to be set. Click Next.

16. Activate scope, default selection, click Next.

17. Click Finish and the scope will be configured.

(2) Configure WDS

1. Open Windows Deployment Services in Windows Administration Tools (replaced by "WDS" below).

2. Right-click on the server and click Configure Server.

3. Click Next, select Independent Server, and click Next.

4. Select Enter the path of the remote folder by default and click Next.

5. Proxy DHCP services are all checked, the default is unchanged, click Next.

Choose to respond to all client computers.

7. Click Finish to complete WDS deployment.

8, we need to install the image file, right-click the DVD in the lower right corner, click Settings, click Use Enjoy File, and then click Connect, see the DVD logo lit up, you can use it.

8. Right-click Boot Image and click Add Boot Image.

9. Click DVD drive, select boot.wim in sources and click Open.

10. Image source data remains unchanged by default. Click Next.

11, summary default unchanged, we install Windows 10 system here.

12. Click Finish Boot Image Add Finish.

Right-click Install Image and click Add Image.

Click Create Named Image Group. (Because this is the first image we created)

As with the previous installation of the boot image, select install.wim here.

16. Available images remain unchanged by default. Click Next.

17. The default summary remains unchanged. Click Next.

18. Click Finish and the installation image is configured.

19. Right-click the server, select all tasks, click Start, and start the WDS service.

3) Start the experiment

Create a new virtual machine and choose to install the image file later.

2. Note that only host mode should be selected here. (Both server and client must be in host-only mode, otherwise they cannot communicate)

3. Start the virtual machine.

4, see the installation system screen hit the Enter key.

5. Click Next.

Enter the administrator name and password.

7. WDS service was successfully deployed.

IV. Summary

1. Use WDS service to reduce deployment difficulty and improve efficiency.

2. Allow network-based installation of Windows systems.
