Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

Huawei announced the construction of a 500-acre chip plant in Cambridge, England, as well as a supporting chip research and development center. The new chip plant is mainly used for the design and manufacture of optical communication modules, and Huawei hopes to eventually open up the UK and even European markets by investing more in the UK.

This means that Huawei is trying to break away from TSMC's mode of manufacturing chips and embark on the road of completely independent design and manufacture.

Interestingly, the site of Huawei's chip factory is right next to ARM. Huawei acquired the land from NWBio, an American biotech company, for a 20-year lease, of which 100 acres will be used to build a new park.

Huawei has recently won a number of 5G orders in Europe, and British operators O2, BT and Vodafone have begun testing Huawei's 5G equipment. Three UK, controlled by Li Ka-shing, also recently signed a £2 billion network architecture contract with Huawei. Huawei has invested more than $2.3 billion in the UK and plans to invest another $3.96 billion within five years.

In 2019, Huawei will support BT and its subsidiaries in 16 major cities in the UK, Vodafone in six major cities in the UK on a 5G scale, and Huawei will launch smartphones with a 5G network. Finally, a complete set of hardware and service system will be completed in Europe.
