Step 1: suppose you have an ADSL broadband line and four computers share the Internet through a TL-R460 broadband router. The network connection is as follows:

Step 2: for some reason, you bought a TL-WR541G wireless broadband router and you want the network to provide wireless access. At this point, a network cable must be drawn from the LAN port of R460 to connect to the WR541G. So, should I connect the WAN port of WR541G? Or connect to the local area network port of WR541G? There are two types of network connections:

R460 (LAN port) to (WAN port) WR541G (wireless) to computer B

R460 (LAN port) to (LAN port) WR541G (wireless) to computer b.

Both of the above links are fine. After the parameters are configured, computer B can finally surf the Internet through R460.

Next, we will configure WR541G and computer B according to the above two connection modes of WR541G, and finally enable computer B to access the Internet wirelessly. It is assumed that the default IP address for R460 is 192.168.1.1.

1) R460 (LAN port) to (WAN port) WR541G (wireless) to computer b.

In this connection mode, you need to configure the following parameters for the WAN port of WR541:

IP address 192.168.1.X (X takes a natural number between 2 and 254)

Subnet 255.255.255.0

The default gateway is 192.168.1.1.

Why do you have the above parameters? Because for WR541G, the LAN port IP address of R460 is its default gateway address!

However, before configuring the WAN port, you need to change the LAN port IP address of the WR541G, because the default IP address of the LAN port of WR541G is 192.168.1.1 to avoid conflicts. The change process is as follows:

First of all, configure the IP address of the computer to 192.168.1.X (X is in the natural number range of 2-254X), enter the WR541G management interface through the URL, and change the IP address of the LAN port to 172.16.1.1 in the network parameters-"LAN Port Settings". Save and prompt for restart.

Next, change the computer's IP address to 172.16.1.X (X is a natural number between 2 and 254).

Once again enter the WR541G management interface through URL, you can configure the WAN port. How much should I fill in the DNS server address above? Please refer to TL-R460 "operational status" or consult your broadband service provider.

2) R460 (local area network port) to WR541G (wireless) to computer b.

In this connection mode, because there is no WAN port for WR541G, there is no need to configure WAN port, only the following parts need to be configured:

First, you need to turn off the DHCP server function of WR541G (select "do not enable").

Second, change the local area network port IP address of WR541G, such as 192.168.1.254, as long as it does not conflict with other IP addresses already in use.

Next, how do I configure the TCP/IP property parameters of a computer that connects wirelessly / wirelessly to WR541G? After the above two steps of configuration, WR541G is equivalent to a "wireless switch", so the TCP/IP property of the computer connected to WR541G should be the same as R460! Equivalent to these computers are connected under R460!
