Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
RIP (Routing Information Protocol) routing protocol is widely used in small and medium networks. RIP uses UDP messages to exchange routing information. The UDP port number is 520. In general, the RIPv1 message is a broadcast message, while the RIPv2 message is a multicast message with a multicast address of 224.0.0.9. RIP sends out update messages every 30 seconds. If the device does not receive the routing update message from the peer after 180 seconds, all routing information from the device is marked as unreachable, and if the update message is not received within 240 seconds, these routes are deleted from the routing table.
RIP is available in both RIP-1 and RIP-2 versions.
RIP-1 is a classful routing protocol that only supports broadcasting protocol messages. The protocol message of RIP-1 cannot carry mask information, and RIP-1 does not support discontiguous subnets.
RIP-2 is a classless routing protocol that has the following advantages over RIP-1:
1. Support route marking, and route can be flexibly controlled according to route tag in routing strategy.
2. The message carries mask information and supports route aggregation and CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing, classless inter-domain routing).
3. The next hop can be specified, and the optimal next hop address can be selected on the broadcast network.
4. Support multicast routing to send update messages to reduce resource consumption.
5. Support the verification of protocol messages, and provide plaintext verification and MD5 verification to enhance security.
Note: there are two modes of message transmission in RIP-2: broadcast and multicast. By default, multicast will be used to send messages, and the multicast address used is 224.0.0.9. When the interface runs RIP-2 broadcast mode, it can also receive RIP-1 messages.
RIPv2 protocol experiment:
1. Experimental topology diagram
Second, the experimental steps
1. Configure the router IP address
(note: commands on Cisco devices can be abbreviated, and most of the commands in this lab are abbreviated. )
2. PC IP address configuration
3. Test the connectivity between PC and gateway
4. Configure RIPv2 protocol
5. By looking at the routing table, we can see that after the RIP routing protocol is configured. Routers can learn from each other the routing tables of other routers.
6. Test the connectivity between cross-network segments (tested with ping command)
This experiment is complete!
