Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
VMware vSAN is a distributed software layer that runs natively as part of the ESXi hypervisor. VSAN aggregates the local or directly connected capacity devices of the host cluster and creates a single storage pool that is shared among all hosts in the vSAN cluster.
Although vSAN supports VMware features that require shared storage, such as HA, vMotion, and DRS, it does not require external shared storage and simplifies storage configuration and virtual machine provisioning activities.
This chapter discusses the following topics:
VSAN concept
VSAN terms and definitions
VSAN and traditional Stora
Build a vSAN cluster
VSAN deployment options
Integrate with other VMware softwar
Limitations of vSAN
I. the concept of vSAN
VMware vSAN uses a software-defined approach to create shared storage for virtual machines. Local physical storage resources for ESXi hosts can be virtualized and converted into storage pools, which can then be divided and assigned to these storage pools based on the quality of service requirements of virtual machines and applications
Virtual machines and applications. VSAN is implemented directly in the ESXi hypervisor. You can configure vSAN to use it as a hybrid cluster or an all-flash cluster. In a hybrid cluster, flash devices are used for the cache layer and disks are used for the storage capacity layer. In an all-flash cluster, flash devices are used as both cache and capacity devices.
You can activate vSAN on an existing host cluster or when you create a new cluster. VSAN aggregates all local capacity devices into a single data store shared by all hosts in the vSAN cluster. Can be extended by adding capacity devices or hosts with capacity devices to the cluster
Data storage. VSAN operates best when all ESXi hosts in the cluster share similar or identical configurations, including similar or identical storage configurations, among all cluster members. A consistent configuration balances virtual machine storage components across all devices and hosts in the cluster. No.
Hosts with any local device can join the vSAN data store and run their virtual machines in it.
"if the host provides its local storage device to the vSAN data store, it must provide at least one flash cache device and one capacity device." Capacity devices are also known as data disks. Devices on such hosts will form one or more disk groups. Each disk group contains a flash cache device and one or more capacity devices for persistent storage. Each host can be configured to use multiple disk groups.
For best practices, capacity considerations, and general recommendations for designing and sizing vSAN clusters, see the VMware vSAN Design and Optimization Guide.
Characteristics of vSAN
This topic provides an overview of the features that apply to vSAN, its clustering, and data storage.
VSAN provides many advantages to your environment.
Table 1-1. VSAN function
"supported feature description shared storage support vSAN support VMware features that require shared storage, such as HA, vMotion, and DRS." Example
For example, if a host is overloaded, DRS can migrate virtual machines to other hosts in the cluster. Disk format vSAN 6.7.3 supports disk virtual file format 10.0, which provides height by vSAN cluster
Scalable snapshot and clone management support. About virtual machine snapshots and supported by each vSAN cluster
For information on the number of clones, see the maximum configuration documentation. All-flash and hybrid configurations can configure vSAN for all-flash or hybrid clusters. Failure domain vSAN supports the configuration of failure domains when vSAN clusters span multiple racks or blade servers in the data center
When the server chassis, can prevent the host rack or chassis failure. ISCSI Target Service vSAN iSCSI Target Service supports hosts and physical workloads that reside outside the vSAN cluster
Access the vSAN data store. Extended Cluster vSAN supports extended clusters, which can span two geographic locations. Support for Windows Server failover clustering (WSFC) vSAN 6.7 Update 3 and later support Windows Server failover clustering
(WSFC) the virtual disk-level SCSI-3 persistent reservation (SCSI3-PR) required in the node's
Arbitrate access to shared disks between. Support for SCSI-3 PR ensures that when configuring WSFC
Causes disk resources to be shared between native virtual machines on vSAN data stores.
The following configurations are currently supported:
Up to 6 application nodes per cluster.
Up to 64 shared virtual disks per node.
Note Microsoft running on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or later
SQL Server 2012 or later has been certified by vSAN.
VSAN Health ServicevSAN Health Service contains some preconfigured health check tests to perform monitoring
Control and troubleshoot and diagnose the cause of problems with cluster components, and identify any potential wind
Insurance. VSAN performance service vSAN performance service contains statistical charts for monitoring IOPS, throughput, latency, and congestion. But
To monitor the performance of vSAN clusters, hosts, disk groups, disks, and virtual machines. Integration with vSphere storage functions vSAN integrates with vSphere data management functions that are commonly used for VMFS and NFS storage.
These features include snapshots, linked clones, and vSphere Replication. Virtual machine storage policy vSAN is used in conjunction with virtual machine storage policy to support virtual machine-centric storage management
Law.
If no storage policy is assigned to the virtual machine during deployment, the vSAN default storage policy is automatically set
Slightly assigned to virtual machines. Quick provisioning vSAN can quickly set up storage in vCenter Server ®during the creation and deployment of virtual machines
Save. Deduplication and compression vSAN can perform block-level deduplication and compression to save storage space. Boot on a vSAN all-flash cluster
After deduplication and compression, redundant data on each disk group is reduced. You can use the cluster-wide
Deduplication and compression are enabled within, but need to be applied on a per-disk-group basis. Data at rest encryption vSAN provides data at rest encryption. Performing all other processing on the data (for example, de-duplicating)
Then encrypt the data. When you remove a device from a cluster, data at rest encryption protects the
data. SDK supports that VMware vSAN SDK for Java is VMware vSphere Management SDK
Expand. It includes helping developers automate vSAN installation, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting
In addition to working documentation, libraries, and code examples.
