As we all know, Apple rarely takes risks on novel, immature, unmodified technology, and sometimes waits too long to keep pace with the times. On high-end Android devices, fingerprint readers have been around for more than a year. The problem is that these very cool hidden fingerprint scanners are usually not much better than traditional fingerprint scanners. In most cases, they are actually worse in terms of speed, accuracy, and reliability, which is obvious for the Galaxy S10 series. Although not as eye-catching as the "regular" S10 and S10, the low-end Galaxy S10e is equipped with a visual side-mounted fingerprint sensor that works perfectly almost 100% of the time.

Of course, this does not mean that smartphone manufacturers will return to the traditional way of scanning users' fingerprints for device and payment authentication. Although Apple doesn't try new things very often, a recent high-risk experiment paid off handsomely because the groundbreaking Face id features on the 2017 iPhone X were really excellent, immediately reassuring touch ID fans in terms of speed, reliability and security. Of course, Apple will continue to improve the Face ID experience, but if it becomes accurate enough, it should not ignore the fingerprint sensor on the backup screen. In short, these two state-of-the-art biometric technologies form an unbreakable barrier, let alone an easy-to-use advantage, even for the world's most skilled hackers.

Guo Mingzhi believes that first, Apple needs to ensure that any attempt to restore and modernize the touch ID meets its strict quality standards, which could take 18 months. It is reported that some unresolved challenges include power consumption, the size of the fingerprint sensing area, the thickness and output of the sensing module. We suspect that these problems are exactly the same as those affecting the performance of Android devices.

That's probably why Apple can wait and keep closing the door. However, when implementing Face ID alternatives, Android and the use of competitors still lag far behind Cupertino's technology giants.
