Advantages:

The mesh is best subdivided, and there is no need to create vertices in a flat area for traditional hardware or even mobile devices. Many other algorithms use displacement height maps in vertex shaders, and the corresponding GLSL functions (texture or textureLod) are not available in vertex shaders on low-end devices

Disadvantages: the preprocessing step (creating a mesh quadtree) is very time-consuming and must store a large amount of data on disk (all three coordinates of vertices and other deformation data of the deformation algorithm) all of these meshes must be transferred from CPU to GPU
