problem description

Recently working on a new deployment project for Skyper For Business Server 2015, the customer insisted on deploying on Windows Server 2016, and when deploying on Windows Server 2016, the prerequisite check failed, and RewriteModule could not be installed.

Further check the log, the log error is as follows:

Trying to install RewriteModule manually also gives an error indicating that it cannot be installed

Upon further inspection it was discovered that IIS 10 was not detected on my Windows Server 2016 due to the version of rewrite_2.0_rtw_x64'which is why it failed to install Skype for Business 2015 on my OS.

solutions

With the above conclusion, through the search of related articles found a way to change the IIS version by modifying the registry (although this solution is not officially recommended, but the official did not launch a solution before the solution can only be solved by modifying the registry solution)

First we open the registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ InetStp to find the MajorVersion option, the MajorVersion value belongs to IIS, and since Skype for Business does not recognize this version of MajorVersion value, it must be changed to another recognized version. (The default version is 10)

Double-click MajorVersion, change it to decimal, and change the value to 7, as shown in the figure:

Run Step 2 again and you will see that it is ready to install.

After successful installation, open the registry again, navigate to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ InetStp, and modify the MajorVersion value back to the original 10, as shown in the figure:

So far, the problem has been solved. I don't know when Microsoft will solve this problem.
