Qualcomm is entering the PC space with two new SoC models. At the annual Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii, the company announced its flagship product for PC, Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, and its budget-oriented Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 for laptops and Chromebook.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is based on the 5-nanometer process (Qualcomm claims to be the first in the PC) and is equipped with Qualcomm Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU. As of this writing, Qualcomm has not listed a specific number of cores or clock speeds, but the company says that compared with 8cx Gen 2, 8cx Gen 3's CPU performance has been improved by 85% and 60%. In addition, it claims to improve 60% of the performance per watt measured when running Geekbench 5 is better than the "competitive x86 platform".

Like previous PC chips, Qualcomm continues to promote the concept of "always online, always connected" PC, supporting 5G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi 6max 6e. The Snapdragon X65 supports 5G modems with a peak download speed of 10 Gbps, and supports sub-6 and millimeter wave technology.
