Editor to share with you how to manually rebuild the Windows 10 icon and image cache, I believe that most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!

Manually rebuild the Windows 10 icon cache

Windows 10 works in much the same way as previous versions of Windows, where icon caching is stored in a special database file called IconCache.db. The following steps are required if you want to rebuild the Windows 10 icon cache.

The icon cache files for Windows 7 and Windows 8 are stored in the C:\ Users\ user name\ AppData\ Local folder, while the icon cache files for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 have been changed to the following path:

% userprofile%\ AppData\ Local\ Microsoft\ Windows\ Explorer

In the folder above you will see files like iconcache_32.db, iconcache_48.db, iconcache_96.db, iconcache_256.db, iconcache_1024.db, iconcache_1280.db, iconcache_1600.db, iconcache_1920.db, iconcache_2560.db, iconcache_exif.db, iconcache_idx.db, iconcache_sr.db, iconcache_wide.dd, iconcache_wide_alternate.db.

Delete all these files and you can rebuild the Windows 10 icon cache. Of course, if Windows Explorer is using the current file, some files may not be deleted. At this point, we can copy and save the following code into a xxx.bat file, and then execute it with administrator privileges.

Cd / d% userprofile%\ AppData\ Local\ Microsoft\ Windows\ Explorertaskkill / f / im explorer.exeattrib-h iconcache_*.dbdel iconcache_*.db / astart explorerpause

Executing the above batch restarts Windows Explorer, so the desktop disappears for a while. After execution, the Windows 10 icon cache database is deleted, and then Windows 10 will automatically rebuild the icon cache for us.

Manually rebuild the Windows 10 thumbnail cache

Windows 10 typically generates thumbnails of pictures, videos, music, and documents with the same path as the Windows 10 icon cache file with a file name similar to thumbcache_*.db. If your thumbnail does not show or refresh, you can try to clean it up with the following batch, the steps are the same as clearing the icon cache.

Cd / d% userprofile%\ AppData\ Local\ Microsoft\ Windows\ Explorertaskkill / f / im explorer.exeattrib-h thumbcache_*.dbdel thumbcache_*.db / astart explorerpause are all the contents of the article "how to manually rebuild the Windows 10 icon and image cache".
