Mlocate

The principle of this command is to create an index database for the file system first, and mlocate is only searching the index, so it is fast.

Preparation: create database (create index)

Sudo updatedb can only be executed with root permissions. It scans the entire system and creates an index for the entire system. The database is in / var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db.

This process will be slow. You can run at noon or at night. After executing the above command, you can use mlocate to search for files.

Use the command

Mlocate abc.txt

Mlocate-ie abc.txt if the abc.txt has been deleted, use-e to check whether the file exists instead of updatedb;-i, ignoring case

Mlocate / etc/*profile looks for profile-like files in / etc

Note: for new files, updatedb should update the database first, otherwise it will not be found. Of course, when updating the index, it is relatively fast to execute updatedb.

Note: both locate and mlocate are fine, but mlocate is better.
