HNV basically builds a software-defined network (SDN) solution for Microsoft updates on the base block and fully integrates the SDN stack.

Microsoft's new network controller pushes the host agent under the HNV policy to run on each host using the Open vSwitch Database Management Protocol (OVSDB) SouthBound interface (SBI). The host agent stores the complex flow rules of the probabilistic flow engine program that runs in the switch to Hyper-V using this custom policy VTEP scheme.

The internal Hyper-V switched flow engine is the same engine used in Microsoft Azure, ™, which has been proven on a large scale in Microsoft hyper by the public Azure cloud. In addition, the entire SDN is stacked through the network controller, and the network resource provider (upcoming details) is Microsoft Azure, thus making Microsoft power consistent with our enterprise and hosting customer service providers in the Azure public cloud.

Hyper-V switching supports the operation of two stateless and state flow rules of the Microsoft internal flow engine based on a simple match.

VXLAN encapsulation support

HNV implements the correct L2 Ethernet header to ensure interoperability with third-party virtual and physical devices based on industry-standard protocols. Microsoft ensures all fields in all transmitted packets, to ensure that this interoperability has compatible values. In addition, supporting jumbo frames (MTU > 1780) in a physical L2 network will need to take into account the packet overhead introduced by the Encapsulation Protocol (NVGRE,VXLAN), while ensuring that the customer virtual machine connected to the HNV virtual network maintains 1514 MTU.
