Cityrow has launched Apple Watch integration on its flagship Max Rower fitness machine, becoming the first company to offer smart rowing devices compatible with Apple's major health wearable devices.

The Cityrow Go Max Rower is a smart home rowing machine with a 19.5-inch touch screen, wood and aluminum design, and a waterproof rowing experience. Like similar fitness equipment made by companies such as Peloton, it also offers virtual fitness courses.

Cityrow's Apple Watch integration will allow users to access both heart rate monitoring and calorie tracking data displayed on both Go Max Rower and Apple Watch. The data can then be sent to the user's health application.

MaxRower owners can track their exercise through the Cityrow application on App Store. The company said its watchOS integration was developed by SweatWorks, a digital organization focused on fitness and health products used on Apple devices.

Although third-party fitness devices such as Peloton bicycles and treadmills have supported Apple Watch integration for some time, Cityrow says its Max Rower is the first smart rowing machine to do so.

Helaine Knapp, chief executive of Cityrow, said: "the way we exercise is changing, and consumers want practical insights to help them effectively achieve their health goals, which is why we offer the first Apple Watch integration for rowers on our flagship product Max Rower."

About a week ago, Cityrow announced that it would broadcast family fitness classes live in a new production studio in New York City. Cityrow also operates a physical boating fitness studio.
