Shulou(Shulou.com)06/03 Report--
An esxi virtual machine in the company's production environment cannot be accessed. The first time to check the machine properties, it is found to be a virtual machine. Log in to vcenter to locate the host location. Lost vmdx files displayed after virtual machine power reset. Let's start restoring esxi virtual machines via flat.vmdk.
First, you need to open the SSH remote access to the esxi server.
There are three ways to open an esxi server:
The first method: accessing esxi through out-of-band
1. Start the console
2. Press F2 to enter the root password and enter.
3. Find Troublehoting Options Enter
4. Select Enable SSH and press Enter. SSH is Enabled is displayed on the right side. SSH is enabled.
The second method: access esxi server authorization through web page to open SSH server
Visit esxi page--> Operations--> Server--> Enable Secure Shell (SSH) to remotely access esxi server via client ssh.
The third method is to enable SSH services through vSphere Client settings esxi server.
Log in to vSphere Client and locate the Configuration Security Profile, Service Properties on the right.
Find SSH server click the option in the lower right corner, start the server and connect to esxi server through the client
2. Client connects to esxi server
Here I use the local PC installed esxi server simulation failure, first created a virtual machine win7 professional edition, after the creation is complete, as shown below
Start simulating missing vmdk profiles
This simulates missing vmdk files, rm-rf win7.vmdk
Turn on the virtual machine power, will report error as shown below
vmkfstools -c 107374182400 -a lsilogic -d thin temp.vmdk
This command creates a vmdk virtual machine disk file and vmdk configuration file
Rename temp.vmdk to win7.vmdk
Edit win7.vmdk, modify temp-flat.vmdk in the figure to win7-flat.vmdk, ddb.thinProvisioned = "1" comment or delete it.
After modification, open the virtual machine win7
normal startup
Extension: What if there is only one flat.vmdk file left in your virtual machine directory, can you restore the system as well?
Make sure your esxi virtual machine's flat.vmdk file exists and isn't corrupted, as we tested today that only one flat.vmdk file can restore the system.
Provided it is in the original VM directory.
Execute: vmkfstools -c 107374182400 -a lsilogic -d thin temp.vmdk Generate configuration file
Configuration file modification has been mentioned before, will not climb stairs please.
You create a virtual machine normally, automatically create virtual machines, add existing virtual disks
Virtual disks can also be added to a new virtual machine as long as there is a vmdk configuration file in the original directory (equivalent to migrating virtual machines)
It turns out it's possible to restore the system.
