Which is the most influential institution in the field of artificial intelligence in China in the past 10 years? What are the most influential scholars?

The Acemap team led by Wang Xinbing, a professor at the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiaotong University, recently released an impact ranking based on the published and cited papers of major research institutions and scholars from 2009 to 2019.

If you enter the ranking website, you can choose to look at the situation in China, the United States or Canada. Up to now, the database contains more than 200 million papers, including more than 60,000 conferences or periodicals in the computer field.

Organization ranking

Tsinghua University topped the list with 23704 citations, followed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Science and Technology of China.

It is worth mentioning that the University of Science and Technology of China ranked third with 21260 citations, but nearly 3/4 of the citations came from six papers by Ren Shaoqing (16256). These six papers mainly focus on the direction of visual recognition.

Ren Shaoqing graduated from the doctoral program jointly developed by the University of Science and Technology of China and Microsoft Research Asia. She is now a partner and director of research and development of Momenta, a self-driving startup. In a paper published in 2017 as the first author, he proposed the Faster R-CNN framework, which is one of the most popular object detection frameworks at present.

In addition, in the 2018 Google academic citation list, Ren Shaoqing is the first in the world to add academic citations in the direction of self-driving, and the second in the world in cumulative academic citations.

The top 4 to 10 universities are Xi'an Jiaotong University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Dalian University of Technology, Sun Yat-sen University and Harbin Institute of Technology.

There are five companies in the TOP50 organization, namely Baidu, ranked 12th, Huawei 22nd, Tencent 29th, Alibaba 40th and eBay 44th.

Scholar ranking

The distribution of multi-point flowering in Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences can be seen more clearly on the TOP50 list of scholars. The two institutions account for 11 and 7 people respectively. Only Ren Shaoqing from China University of Science and Technology made the list.

The top five scholars are Ren Shaoqing, Zhang Xiangyu of Science and Technology, Lu Huchuan, professor of Dalian University of Technology, Cheng Mingming, professor of Nankai University, and Zhou Zhihua, professor of Nanjing University.
