Esxi system is installed, or esxi is already installed and needs to be reinstalled

Environment: Dell R730 server.

Preliminary preparation: the installation image of VMware ESXi 5.5.0 should be prepared in advance, which can be installed through CD-ROM, USB disk or idrac management interface.

1. Load the ISO file of VMware ESXi version 5.5.0, ESXi boot the loader, and start the installation. Press enter to enter the installation interface. As shown in the figure:

2. In the process of installing ESXi boot loading, you need to wait a moment. You can clearly see all kinds of information in the window, including host configuration (CPU, memory), version number, kernel, hardware platform, and so on, as shown in the figure:

3. Enter the VMware ESXi installation interface and see the interface of "Welcome to the VMware ESXi 5.5.0 Installation". Press the 'enter key' to start the installation and move on to the next step. As shown in the figure:

4. In the "End User License Agreement" interface, press the 'F11' key to accept the license agreement. As shown in the figure:

5. In the "Select a Disk to Install or Upgrade" interface, we can choose the location to install the disk. Now there is only one disk. Press enter key, as shown in the figure:

6. If this interface does not appear, please ignore this step.

If this interface appears, that is, the machine has previously installed ESXi and is in use, the "ESXi and VMFS Found" interface will pop up, which prompts you to find an ESXi and VMFS data store. Select the following:

() Upgrade ESXi,preserve VMFS datastore updates the ESXi and retains the ESXi data store.

() Install ESXi,preserve VMFS datastore installs new ESXi and preserves data storage.

(X) Install ESXi,overwrite VMFS datastore installs a new ESXi and overwrites the VMFS data store.

Suggestion: the previous version is ESXi 5.X, option 1; install a new ESXi, but keep the database, option 2; if reinstalled and the data is not needed, option 3. Now that it's time to reinstall, I'll choose item 3, as shown in the figure:

7. In the "Please a keyboard layout" interface, select "US Default" and press "enter", as shown in the figure:

8. In the "Enter a root password" interface, you can set the administrator password (the default is root for the user). It is recommended to set a complex password. As shown in the figure:

9. In the "Confirn Install" interface, press' enter', as shown in the figure:

10. If it is installed on a new server (including installation on an initialized hard disk), the "Confirm Install" interface will pop up and prompt that the disk will be repartitioned and the data on this disk will be deleted. Then VMware ESXi starts the installation, and you can see the percentage of progress of the installation, as shown in the figure:

11. After the installation of VMware ESXi 5.5.0 is completed (usually faster), the "Installation Complete" interface will pop up, and 'press enter' will restart the system. And prompt to remove the installation CD before restarting. As shown in the figure:

12. If VMware ESXi starts successfully, you can clearly see all kinds of information about the server in the system interface after installation. The information shows the CPU model, host memory size and management address of the VMware ESXi 5.5.0 running server.

Note: in VMware ESXi 5 or 6, the default console management address is assigned through DHCP. If there is no DHCP in the network or DHCP does not have an available address, the address of the management console may be 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.x.x. This situation requires setting and modifying the console Taichung management address so that it can be managed using vSphere Client.

13, press F2 key, enter the password, enter the configuration IP address, DNS, change password, VLAN and other information.

14. In "Configure Password", you need to change the password, and you need to enter the new and old passwords; in "Configure Managenent Network", configure the network IP address, DNS, and VLAN, and talk about these two points.

15. Configure the IP address in "IP configuration".

Configure the DNS service in "DNS configuration".

17 press the ESC key to exit, will pop up whether to report the error just changed configuration information, click Y, you can save, save it.
