Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--

After an optical module is made into a finished product, in order to ensure the quality of the product, it has to go through many steps of testing before shipment. In the test, there are several parameters are very important, only these parameters meet the relevant standards in order to make the best performance of the optical module. These parameters include: emitting light power, receiving sensitivity, bias current, saturated light power, extinction ratio and working temperature.

Today we will focus on the emitted optical power. You may know its definition, but do you know how to test the optical power of the optical module? Then, please follow the steps of Yi Tianguang Communication, we will answer for you!

First of all, we need to understand what is emitted optical power.

The emitting optical power refers to the output optical power of the light source at the transmitting end of the optical module, which is an important parameter of the optical module in terms of dBm, which will directly affect the quality of network communication.

What are the reasons for the poor power of the optical module?

V power resistance mismatch

Poor patch or poor performance of v driver chip

V launch components with poor TOSA or virtual welding of PD+ pins

Bad magnetic beads, missed sticking or wrong sticking on v LD+ and LD- signal lines

V components (capacitors, resistors, inductors or magnetic beads) under the pin of the storage chip are defective, missed or mispasted

How to test the emitting power of an optical module?

The tools we generally use are optical power meters and optical fiber attenuators. The test steps are as follows:

V uses a power meter to measure the optical output power of an optical fiber transmitter. Industry standards define the optical input power of transmitters and receivers of specific network standards. The receiver and transmitter to be used should match, and the optical output power of the transmitter should be within the specified range.

V connect the transmitter to the receiver, check whether it can work properly under the maximum optical input power that the transmitter can provide, and then test the receiver with the minimum optical input power that the receiver can receive to see if the receiver can still provide the best performance.

V calculate the level of attenuation required for the test. Calculation method: if the optical output power of the transmitter is-15 dBm, the minimum optical power of the receiver is-32 dBm, and the difference between them is 17 dB. Then you can use a 17 dB fiber attenuator and retest the receiver.

Doing business is not simply selling products, but showing professional service and product technical knowledge to customers, which is exactly what some salespeople lack. Just imagine, if you don't know anything about product testing, how can the customer trust you with the order? Therefore, if we want to become the god of foreign trade, we have to learn from the basic knowledge and know everything.

ETU-LINK, as an optical module manufacturer, can provide you with professional optical module knowledge free of charge!
