1) insert the SQL Server installation media and double-click Setup.exe in the root folder. To install from a network share, locate the root folder in the share, and then double-click Setup.exe.
2) the installation wizard will run the SQL Server installation Center. To create a new SQL Server installation, click install in the left navigation area, and then click New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.
3) the system configuration Checker will run the discovery operation on your computer. To continue, click OK. You can view details on the screen by clicking Show details, or as an HTML report by clicking View detailed report.
4) on the Product key page, select an option to indicate whether you want to install a free version of SQL Server or a production version of a product with a PID key. For more information, see the version and components of SQL Server 2012.
To continue, click next.
5) View the license agreement on the license terms page, and if you agree, select the "I accept the license terms" check box, and then click next. To help improve SQL Server, you can also enable the feature usage option and send the report to Microsoft.
6) on the Product updates page, the most recent SQL Server product updates are displayed. If you do not want to include updates, uncheck the include SQL Server product updates check box. If no product updates are found, SQL Server setup will not display the page and automatically advance to the install installer Files page.
7) on the install installer Files page, the installer will provide the progress of downloading, extracting, and installing these installer files. If an update for the SQL Server installer is found and specified to include it, the update will also be installed.
8) the system configuration Checker will verify the system status of the computer before the installation continues.
9) on the set roles page, select SQL Server feature installation, and then click next to continue to the feature selection page.
10) on the feature selection page, select the components you want to install. After you select a feature name, a description of each component group is displayed in the feature description pane. You can select any of the check boxes.
11) on the installation rules page, setup will verify the system status of the computer before the installation continues.
12) specify whether to install the default instance or a named instance on the instance configuration page. For more information, see instance configuration. Click next to continue.
13) the disk Space requirements page calculates the disk space required for the specified function, and then compares the required space with the available disk space.
14) use the Server configuration-Service account page to specify the login account for the SQL Server service. The actual services configured on this page depend on the features you choose to install. When you are finished specifying login information for the SQL Server service, click next.
15) use the Server configuration-collation page to specify non-default collations for the database engine and Analysis Services.
16) use the Database engine configuration-account Settings page to specify the following:
When you are finished editing the list, click OK. Verify the list of administrators in the configuration dialog box. When you have finished this list, click next.
17) use the Database engine configuration-data Catalog page to specify a non-default installation directory. To install to the default directory, click next.
Important note important hint
If you specify a non-default installation directory, make sure that the installation folder is unique to this SQL Server instance. No directory in this dialog box should be shared with the directories of other SQL Server instances.
18) use the Database engine configuration-FILESTREAM page to enable FILESTREAM on the SQL Server instance.
19) use the Analysis Services configuration-account Settings page to specify the server mode and the user or account that will have Analysis Services administrator privileges. The server mode determines which memory and storage subsystems are used for the server. Different solution types run in different server modes. If you plan to run the cube database on the server, select the default options Multidimensional and data Mining server mode. For administrator privileges, you must specify at least one system administrator for Analysis Services. To add an account that is currently running SQL Server setup, click the add current user button. To add or remove accounts from the list of system administrators, click add or remove, and then edit the list of users, groups, or computers that will have administrator privileges for Analysis Services. When you are finished editing the list, click OK. Verify the list of administrators in the configuration dialog box. When you have finished this list, click next.
20) use the Analysis Services configuration-data Catalog page to specify a non-default installation directory. To install to the default directory, click next.
21) use the Reporting Services configuration page to specify the type of Reporting Services installation to create. After you have selected the options, click next to continue.
22) on the error reporting page, specify the information to send to Microsoft that will help improve SQL Server. By default, the option for error reporting is enabled.
23) the system configuration Checker will run multiple sets of rules to verify the computer configuration with the SQL Server feature that you specify.
24) the prepare for installation page displays a tree view of the installation options specified during installation. On this page, the installer indicates whether to enable or disable the product update feature and the final update version.
To continue, click install. The SQL Server installer will first install the prerequisites for the selected feature, and then install the selected feature.
25) during installation, the installation Progress page provides the appropriate status, so you can monitor the installation progress during the installation process.
26) after the installation is complete, the finish page provides links to the installation summary log file and other important instructions. To complete the SQL Server installation process, click close.
The installation is complete.
