Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

On September 25, Oracle officially announced the release of Java 11 (18.9 LTS). This is the first long-term support release since Java 8, and it's worth noting that

It can be downloaded from the following address:

Java 11 Release Notes

Java 11 will receive long-term support from Oracle until September 2026, according to Oracle's published support roadmap.

To iterate faster and follow community feedback, Java's release cycle was changed to once every six months-a major release every six months, an intermediate feature release every quarter, and a promise not to skip tickets. In this way, the development team can incorporate key features into JDK early to get developer feedback quickly, and to some extent avoid the situation of being forced to delay the release of Java 9 twice.

According to the official statement, the new release cycle will strictly follow the timing and will be released in March and September of each year. Java 11 version number is 18.9(LTS).

However, unlike Java 9 and Java 10, two so-called "functional releases"(both of which only provide technical support for half a year), Java 11 not only provides long-term support services, but will also serve as a reference implementation for the Java platform. Oracle will provide technical support for Java 11 until September 2023, while extended support such as patches and security warnings will continue until 2026.

New long-term support releases are released every three years, and according to subsequent release plans, the next long-term support version of Java 17 will be released in 2021.

Java 11 License

The following content is extracted from the official website announcement

Important changes in Oracle JDK 11 license

With JDK 11, Oracle has updated our licensing terms for offering Oracle JDK. The new Oracle Technology Network developer license for Oracle Java SE is significantly different from the license that provided previous versions of JDK. Please read the new terms carefully before downloading and using this product.

Oracle also makes this software available under a GPL license at jdk.java.net/11

Officially, starting with Java 11, Oracle will offer JDK versions under the GPLv2 license, using Classpath Exception (GPLv2 +CPE), to satisfy the need to use Oracle JDK under a commercial license as part of an Oracle product or service, or to not want to use open source software. This combination of use of an open source license and a commercial license replaces the historical "BCL" license, which had a combination of free and paid commercial terms.
