4. Adjust the page orientation. If you need to write the document in a different direction, click the orientation option in the Page layout section of the menu bar, and then select Portrait or Landscape from the drop-down list.
5. Change the paper size in the Page layout section of the menu bar. If you need to print the document on a specific paper size, click the size button, and then select the desired size from the drop-down list.
This will change the virtual size of the document you are writing.
6. Adjust the header and footer of the document. The header contains the details that will appear on each page of the paper.
To set the title of the document, double-click the top of the page and the title field appears.
Adjust the document footer. The footer is like a document header. All text in the footer is displayed at the bottom of each page of the document.
To set the footer of the paper, double-click the bottom of the page, and the footer field is displayed.
You can also format headers and footers by selecting the View tab from the menu bar at the top of the screen, and then clicking header and footer on the list. This opens the header and footer on the page and allows you to create them.
7. Adjust the margin. Click the margins button on the page setup section of the page layout tab, and then select a margin from the predefined margin settings listed in the drop-down list.
If you want to use your own margin measurement, click Custom margin at the bottom of the drop-down list to set your own margin.
8. Add columns. If you need to create a newspaper-like document, you can do so by reformatting the document to a column. Select the columns option from the ribbon, and then select the desired number of columns and alignment from the drop-down list. You will find the column button on the first row of the ribbon. This button has a green icon that shows a small rectangle divided into two halves.
If you want to create one, two, or three columns, you can create them from preset options. If you want to create more content, you need to select more columns.
Note that this column option is different from the column you get when you insert items such as tables in the document.
9. Add bullets and numbers. Highlight the text you want to number or bullet, and then click the number or bullet button on the ribbon.
After aligning the buttons, you can find them side by side on the ribbon. The number button displays three lines with numbers on the left side of the line, and the bullet button displays three lines with bullets on the left side of the line.
10. Format document style. All documents have standard built-in styles (for example, normal, title, title 1). The default style for text is normal. The template on which the document is based (for example, Normal.dotx) determines which styles are displayed on the ribbon and the Styles tab.
Before you apply styles, you can view all available styles and preview how they are displayed when applied.
On the Home tab or on the menu bar, under style, under the format tab, select a style, and then click the style you want.
You can also click the modify button on the Styles tab to create your own style.
By default, Word applies paragraph styles (for example, heading 1) to the entire paragraph. To apply a paragraph style to a part of a paragraph, select only the specific part you want to modify.
