Microsoft today made a series of updates to its artificial intelligence dialogue solution, including the release of an open source system that can create a virtual assistant in minutes, which can now be previewed.

Solution Accelerator will use preset skills to do things such as finding local services or answering simple questions. It also includes calendars, points of interest, linked accounts, and to-do tips. The solution Accelerator uses the Microsoft Robot Framework.

"We really understand what companies that value dialogue artificial intelligence want to do, and we have redesigned a lot of tools to support more complex solutions," Cheng Lili, vice president of Microsoft, said in an interview with VentureBeat.

Azure cognitive service "text-language synthesis" has been upgraded today, and API (Translator API) has also been upgraded today to support the conversion of Chinese, German and English languages.

Cheng, who oversees Microsoft's Bot framework and works with enterprise customers, also wrote an article on the guiding principles for developing conversation robots today.

Cheng encourages dialogue designers to take the lead when users talk to robots, realizing that robots can make mistakes like humans. She believes that when producing robots, enterprises should be aware of the risks in the relationship between enterprises and customers, and robots should only do what they should do.

It also announced today that Microsoft has acquired XOXCO, the creator of Botkit, began to provide container support for some Azure cognitive services, and simplified the new AI service and an Azure machine learning integration for Power BI software.

Among other recent updates, version 4.1 of the Bot framework SDK and tools was released earlier this month, including the general availability of the Bot simulator for testing and more control over the Bot framework's web chat tools.
