This article is to share with you about how to update the openSUSE Linux system, the editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you to learn. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

As far as I can remember, I have always been a user of Ubuntu. I've switched to other distributions, but I ended up going back to Ubuntu again and again. But recently, I started using openSUSE to try something other than Debian.

As I continue to explore openSUSE, I keep discovering slightly different things in SUSE and intend to introduce them in the tutorials.

I wrote about updating the openSUSE system. There are two ways to do this:

Use terminals (for openSUSE desktops and servers)

Use graphical tools (for openSUSE desktops)

Update openSUSE from the command line

The easiest way to update openSUSE is to use the zypper command. It provides all the features of patch and update management. It can resolve file conflicts and dependencies. Updates also include the Linux kernel.

If you are using openSUSE Leap, use this command:

Sudo zypper update

You can also use up instead of update, but I think update is easier to remember.

If you are using openSUSE Tumbleweed, please use dist-upgrade or dup. Tumbleweed is a rolling release, so the dist-upgrade option is recommended.

Sudo zypper dist-upgrade

It displays a list of packages to upgrade, remove, or install.

If your system needs to be restarted, you will be notified.

If you just want to refresh the warehouse (like sudo apt update), you can use this command:

Sudo zypper refresh

If you want to list the updates available, you can also do this:

Sudo zypper list-updates updates openSUSE graphically

If you use openSUSE as your desktop, you can choose to use the GUI tool to install updates. This tool may change depending on the desktop environment you use.

For example, KDE has its own software center called "Discover". You can use it to search for and install new applications. You can also use it to install system updates.

In fact, KDE will notify you of available system updates in the notification area. You must open Discover because clicking the notification will not automatically enter the Discover.

If you find this annoying, you can use these commands to disable it:

Sudo zypper remove plasma5-pk-updatessudo zypper addlock plasma5-pk-updates

But I don't recommend it. It is best to get available update notifications.

There is also a YAST software management GUI tool that you can use to exert finer control over package management.

That's it.

The above is how to update the openSUSE Linux system, the editor believes that there are some knowledge points that we may see or use in our daily work. I hope you can learn more from this article. For more details, please follow the industry information channel.
