New virtual machine

The main steps to create a virtual machine are as follows:

1. Click the create Virtual Machine button in the main window of VMware.

5. Set the name of the virtual machine and the location of the virtual machine files. It is recommended that you create a folder in the Vmware installation directory specifically for virtual machine files.

6. Configure the CPU and memory of the virtual machine, which requires sharing the hardware resources of the physical host.

Most of the CPU of physical hosts are dual-core four-threaded. Here, you can just configure a core for the virtual machine.

The memory size of the virtual machine can be flexibly set according to the memory size of the physical host. If the physical memory is greater than 4GB, the memory of the virtual machine can be set to 2GB, otherwise it is recommended to set it to 1GB.

7. You can choose the network type as well as the Imax O controller and disk type by default.

8. Select create New Virtual Machine disk in the Select disk interface. The virtual disk is stored in the physical host in the form of a file with the .vmdk extension, and all data in the virtual machine is stored in the virtual disk.

Then you need to specify the capacity of the disk, which defaults to 40G. The capacity size here is the maximum amount of space allowed in the virtual machine, rather than immediately allocating such a large amount of disk space. The size of the disk file increases dynamically with the increase of data in the virtual machine, but if you select "allocate disk space now", this space will be allocated to the virtual machine immediately, and this is not recommended here.

In addition, it is strongly recommended that you select "Save virtual disk as a single file", so that a separate file will be used as a file for the disk, provided that the distinction between storing disk files is a NTFS partition. If you select split virtual disk into multiple files, it will seriously affect the performance of the virtual machine.

9. After the virtual machine is created, you can continue to click the Custom hardware button to make further adjustments to the virtual machine hardware. It is recommended to remove the hardware devices that are not used by virtual machines such as "sound card" and "printer", so as to save system resources.

A new virtual machine is created.
