Idea: complete backup of the source virtual machine through Windows Server Backup, and then restore the source virtual machine to the host through bare metal

Prepare the environment:

1 failed ESXI host and virtual machine that needs reclaimed space

1 ESXI host with enough space for virtual operation of bare metal recovery. # to reduce the failure risk of virtual machine backup and recovery, it is recommended to prepare an esxi host for bare metal recovery

Set up the vcenter and add 2 esxi to it for virtual machine migration after recovery

Implementation steps:

1. Remove unnecessary settings from the source virtual machine, such as CD/DVD drives

2. Sort out the disk space of the source virtual machine, sort out and compress the disk space that can be cleaned in the virtual machine according to the actual situation.

Note: when the system exists, multiple partitions have space that can be sorted out and compressed, and the compressed space needs to be sorted together.

You can use the Partition Assistant to move the partition to the front of the blank partition

It is proved by experiments that when there are multiple partitions with compressed space, the disk space will only subtract the space of the last blank partition when restoring the virtual machine in bare metal, otherwise it will be prompted in the bare metal recovery that the hard disk space in bios is less than the source backup.

3. Create a new virtual machine on esxi. The disk space is greater than or equal to the compressed space of the source virtual machine. It is recommended that it is slightly larger than the compressed space of the source virtual machine by 1-10g.

A. Boot from the system CD-repair the computer-troubleshoot-restore the system image-select the system image

B. Add network image location

C. Select the system to be restored

D, choose according to the actual situation, now need to make a full recovery
