Deploying DHCP Services

DHCP works and functions:

l DHCP allocation method:

Auto-assignment: Auto-assignment is when a DHCP client successfully acquires an IP address from a DHCP server for the first time and uses that IP address permanently.

Manual assignment: Manual assignment is the IP address specifically assigned by the DHCP server administrator.

Dynamic allocation: Dynamic allocation is when a DHCP client first obtains an IP address from a DHCP server, it does not use the address permanently, but after each use, the DHCP client releases the IP address for use by other clients.

The DHCP lease process:

The client requests an IP address.

The server responded.

The client selects an IP address.

The server determines the lease.

Log back in.

The role of DHCP:

Reduce administrator workload.

Avoid the possibility of typing errors.

Avoid IP address conflicts.

When the network changes IP address segments, there is no need to reconfigure each user's IP address.

Increase IP address utilization.

Easy client configuration.

To install DHCP services:

l Installation requirements: (Windowsserver2008)

Servers have static IP addresses.

DHCP service is required to be authorized using Active Directory Server in a domain environment.

Create scope and activate.

l Installation steps:

Step 1: Open Server Manager

Step 2: Select 'Role' and click 'Add Role'

Step 3: Check 'DHCP Server', click' Next'.

Step 4: Click 'Next'

Step 5: Do not add the parent domain name and DNS server address, directly click 'Next'

Step 6: If there is no WINS server on the network, select 'Applications on this network do not require WINS'

Then click 'Next'

Step 7: Add a DHCP scope (you can add it yourself later)

Step 8: After confirming that the configuration information is correct, click 'Install'

Step 9: After successful installation, click 'Close'

DHCP service installation complete.

management scopes

l New scope:

Step 1: Click Start → Management Tools →DHCP

Step 2: Right-click 'IPv4' and select 'New Scope'

Step 3: Enter the name and click 'Next'

Step 4: After entering the start IP and end IP, click 'Next'

Step 5: Add IP to exclude (e.g. IP of corporate printer)

Step 6: After confirming the lease time, click 'Next'

Step 7: After configuring DHCP options, click 'Next'

Step 8: Click on 'Finish'

Maintaining DHCP services

l Backup and restore DHCP services

Backup: Open DHCP console in admin tool, right click server name,

Select 'Backup' and select the path to the backup file.

Restore: Right-click on the server name and select 'Restore' and select the file path at the time of backup.

Click 'OK' to complete the restore.
