Q: the server is running correctly and you can see the list of processes, but any attempt to connect to the set port (or the default port 21) fails. Socket is not even open.

A: check two things:

-if you are running BSD and want to listen to IPv4 addresses, check whether the "- 4" option ("IPV40nly" in the configuration file) is enabled.

-if you enable the upload script ("- o" or "CallUploadScript"), make sure pure-uploadscript is started. Otherwise, the FTP server is actually waiting until pure-uploadscript is ready to process new uploads. If you don't need a uploadscript device, remove the "- o".

3. Double slash

Q: why do I see a double slash in the log file? For example, the path to the downloaded file is / home/john//pictures/zok.jpg.

A: "/ /" is a sign of chroot jail restrictions. In this case, it means that John is limited to / home/john.

4.Windows transplantation

Can Q:Pure-FTPd run on Windows?

A: yes. There is a migrated version in http://www.pureftpd.org/windows/. But this server is developed on Unix, and the Win32 version is only experimental and not supported.

5. Run ftpwho as a non-root user

A: by default, "pure-ftpwho" is restricted and can only be run by root, because users should not have the ability to spy on what other users are doing on the same host. However, it is safe to add setuid bit to the command so that it can be used by any user:
