Google's plan to withdraw from the traditional ring chat is finally in its final stages. Over the past two years, the company has been slowly migrating users from Hangouts to Google Chats and finally confirming that Chat will replace classic Hangouts for Workspace users within a month.

In a recent blog post, Google revealed that it would "enable the chat preference setting" for any customers who have not yet done so from March 22. This will make Google chat the default chat app, and mobile apps that visit the classic web version of Gmail or the traditional version will be redirected to Chat. However, the web version of the ring chat will continue to run, but Android and iOS applications will be disabled. In addition, Google pointed out that users will not be able to opt out of this change.

Google has also specified a detailed schedule for this change based on the administrative console settings. If the administrative console is set to chat and traditional Ring chat, it will be upgraded to preferred chat within three weeks starting from March 22. However, if the administrative console is set to traditional Loop chat only, the change will occur within five weeks starting April 4. Once the domain is upgraded to preferred chat, the chat and traditional Ring chat and traditional Ring chat only settings will be removed from the administrative console.

Please note that this migration only affects G Suite customers as well as older G Suite Basic and Business customers. It will not affect individuals using Google accounts to use ring chat.
