Microsoft Power BI DIAD activity has been going on for a year, here, we are very grateful to our customers, Microsoft, and Power BI Chinese community for their support. At the same time, we can also feel that the tuyere of Agile Business Intelligence has arrived, and students have grown from "what is Power BI" to "what analysis Power BI can make". We also hope to give students and readers some reviews and share.

Generally speaking, in the tuyere of agile business intelligence, thinking is still the most critical weather vane.

Thought 1: what is the correct way to open Power BI

The emergence of Power BI surprised many enterprise data analysts and data analysis enthusiasts, which not only fully demonstrated everyone's imagination and creativity, but also created a variety of problems:

"Why do some of the charts I designed the dashboard not interact with each other before, while others can interact?"

"I want to calculate a measure, but no matter how I write it, I don't know why."

-"Why is there nothing wrong with your dashboard when you do the same operation, but mine can't work?"

"Why do I want to use the graph to show the data, but it can't be shown?"

After we helped you solve these problems one after another, I found the problem: people often start making dashboards after self-taught Power BI courses online, but don't know the meaning behind these skills of Power BI.

The powerful function of Power BI provides us with unlimited imagination of data analysis, but only by understanding the data analysis logic behind these functions, can we express the content of analysis with the most reasonable chart, rather than a pile of skills.

Thinking 2: don't make a report in order to make a report. Analysis is the essence of the dashboard.

There are many students in the process of communication with us, said that in order to make a dashboard, to write a lot of metrics can be achieved, or think that Power BI can help me with all kinds of data integration and cleaning, then I can easily write as many metrics as possible to make my dashboard analysis comprehensive enough. In fact, a wide range of metrics will confuse your dashboard.

One of the reasons why business dashboards are becoming more and more important is that they can succinctly and intuitively show the status quo of the business. the real business dashboards need to be cocooned, simplified and carefully designed. So how can we do that? The train of thought of analysis is the thread that we need to find. Before designing the dashboard, you can ask yourself three questions:

"Why do I need to design this dashboard?"

"what theme is my dashboard trying to express?"

"is there any information in my dashboard that can not be displayed?"
