The following will give you a detailed introduction to the GLBP of gateway load balancing configuration experiments, hoping to give you some help in practical application. Load balancing involves many things, not many theories, and there are many books on the Internet. Today, we will use the accumulated experience in the industry to do an answer.

1. Experimental Topology

Gateway Load Balancing Protocol

AVF (Active virtual forwarder)

All routers and switches running GLBP become AVF

AVG (Active virtual gateway)

Select an AVG from all AVF (high priority, high IP)

GLBP one virtual gateway IP, multiple virtual MAC (AVG assigns a virtual MAC address to each AVF)

When PC sends an ARP Request, the AVG responds to a virtual MAC address, which may be the virtual MAC address of the AVG itself or the virtual MAC address of any one of the AVF.

2. Basic configuration

3. Test GLBP

Two different PC went out of different routers, proving that they did play a load balancing role.
