Sony may have released the RX100 VI only last year, but the company has already released a newer model called the RX100 VII. (technically, it's called "Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII", but it's a name that no one can use outside the catalog.) The new model is the first RX100 to provide external microphone ports, as well as long-term needs-as well as Sony's real-time tracking and real-time AF systems on the A6400 and A9.

Borrow some of Sony's best high-end features

The lens on the RX100 VII is the same as last year's model: it is a 24mm-200mm zoom lens with an aperture of fComp2.84.5and provides up to 8.3x optical zoom. The 2 million-pixel 1-inch sensor has been upgraded to a stacking sensor, using a technology similar to the full frame on the A9.

There is also the new "single-shot continuous-shot drive mode", which can take seven still photos up to 90 fps with just one click of the shutter. It aims to provide photographers with better opportunities to get the photos they want.

Perhaps the most important additional feature is the addition of a 3.5mm microphone port, which means that content creators can actually use the RX100 VII as an all-in-one device to record video without having to worry about the microphone on the headboard.

Sony seems to know that the RX100 VII is particularly attractive to vlogger: the company will also sell RX100 VII in "Shooting Grip Kit", which includes cameras, handheld handles (with active video and photo shutters), microphone brackets (sold separately) and two rechargeable batteries. In addition, Sony claims that video performance is even better than the already good RX100 VI and the front-facing flip screen, and you have a portable and powerful video-on-demand machine.

RX100 VII will go on sale in late August 2019 at a price of $1200. The above gun grip kit will be available for $1300 later in 2019. Reservations will be made at BH Photo and Adorama later today.
