As a result, the company is making several hardware upgrades, which will not only improve existing features, but also add new features to enhance security and performance.

One of these features is a full face recognition system, which may be used on future iPhone models, said Guo Mingzhi, an Apple analyst. Unfortunately, this feature is unlikely to be implemented on iPhone 8, which is scheduled for launch this fall.

Specifically, it all started when Apple planned to produce a zero-frame iPhone. Because of the new shape, the company can no longer use the existing capacitive sensor on the iPhone, so what Cupertino wants to do is switch to the optical sensor installed at the bottom of the screen.

In this way, the iPhone can be designed with zero frame, and a fingerprint sensor can be provided at the bottom of the display screen, which can be activated when the user touches the panel. This is not the first time we've heard of fingerprint sensors integrated on iPhone screens, and it looks like Apple is preparing at full speed.

However, the transition to optical sensors is only part of the plan. Apple's long-term goal is to get rid of the sensor and replace it with biometric technology to enhance the security of the iPhone, the analyst said. Until then, however, optical fingerprint sensors are the perfect temporary solution.

As for the improvement in biometric technology on the iPhone, it seems that Apple is reluctant to adopt widely used solutions such as iris scanners, preferring a more secure full-face recognition system. This will help eliminate fingerprint sensors completely, but Apple hopes to do so only if the new system is advanced enough to provide an ultra-low authentication failure rate.

On the other hand, don't expect the new biometric system to appear on the iPhone for the first time in 2017, as it is still under way at Apple, and the next model may be equipped with fingerprint sensors (capacitive or optical).
