According to Part03, after completing the successful registration of NSX Manager with vCenter Server, the next thing to do is to start preparing for deployment of NSX Controller. With regard to the use of NSXController, Part01 has already introduced, a distributed control processing unit, its existence can help provide a unified ControlPlane to the host distributed network, and for the sake of availability, we prepare at least two NSXControllers.

NSXController will have three important tables, namely:

MAC address table

ARP table

VTEP table

For many people, they may have seen the first MAC address table and the second ARP table, but if they are not exposed to network virtualization, they may be new to the third VTEPtable (of course, if you have read the previous article on VxLAN by virtual human, you can understand the use of VTEP). So what exactly are these watches for? Obviously, from the name, they are responsible for collecting information from virtual machines, hosts, and VTEP, respectively, and then go to replicate throughout the NSX Domain. The biggest advantage of this is that it can be activated in Multi-cast free VxLAN in the underlying environment. In the previous version of vCNS and other versions of VxLAN, activation was required in the physical environment as a whole. However, the result is an increase in administrative costs but a significant reduction in the complexity of the system.

One good thing about maintaining these tables is that ARP can be suppressed. This reduces the ARP request throughput for the entire environment. So, in a second-tier environment (L2 that spans L3), this is important. If the IP segment request for the MAC address is not the local segment, the host gets the Replicated message from the NSX Controller and populates it into its own Tables

NSXControllers is a good Control Plane solution, it is usually recommended to deploy three Controllers to form a Cluster, and these things are virtual machines, you just need to add them separately in the NSX Manager. They are responsible for submitting, maintaining, and updating status messages for all network components in the NSX environment. Cluster technology similar to Zookeeper is used. NSX allows a certain Controller failure, and during operation, some two of them can be killed, as long as at least one NSX Controller is in normal operation.

1. Click Installation NSX Controllernodes in figure 01, and the green plus sign in the red box will pop up the deployment wizard. Note that in general, both VMware and virtual humans recommend that you choose an odd number of Controllers instead of an even number, in order to better provide the failover of NSXController:

2. Then, in the pop-up window, as shown in figure 02, set the following messages:

NSX Manager

Datacenter

Cluster/Resource Pool

Datastore

Host

Folder

Connected To

IP Pool

Password

And so on:

3. Other options in the above message can be selected according to the prompts. You can click the Select button to select the Connected To option, and then the system will pop up the window shown in figure 03. You need to select Portgroup. Here you need to select Distributed Portgroup:

4. At the same time, there is the IP Pool option, which has the value of automatically assigning IP addresses to newly generated NSX Controller virtual machines. When you click the Select corresponding to IPPool, go back to the window shown in figure 04, and click the green plus sign in figure 04 to open the IPPool settings window:

5. Go to the window shown in figure 05 to name the IP Pool, set the Default Gateway, limit the subnet size, set the DNS, set the DNS suffix, and set the Static IP Pool. Then the newly generated NSX Controller virtual machine will obtain the network configuration information according to the rules set below:

6. After you have completed the addition of IP Pool, you will go to the password setting section. You need to note here that the password requirements are:

Not less than 12 bits

Uppercase letters are required

Need to have a number.

Special characters are required

There can be no words like admin.

Note that the default administrator account is admin, make no mistake:

7. After clicking the Ok in figure 06, all that is left is to wait for its deployment to be completed. Figure 07 shows its deployment status, which shows Deploying:

8. During deployment, a virtual machine that starts with NSX_Controller_XXXXXXXXXX appears in Inventory, which is the embodiment of NSX Controller, and the following XXXXXX is UUID, as shown in figure 08:

9. After the deployment is completed, the virtual machine starts automatically, and then completes the initialization configuration. If you are curious, you can open the window of the virtual machine and see information similar to the startup process and startup process shown in figure 09:

10. After successful initialization, go to the Installation window of Networking & Security again, and you can see that the Status shown in figure 10 is Normal, which means that the first node deployment has been completed successfully:

11. Follow the example of the cat and tiger, and repeat what the first node has done before to complete the deployment of 3 NSXControllers. After unfamiliar completion, you can see it in Inventory, as shown in figure 11:

Finally, add that if the deployment fails in the middle, or if you delete it and redeploy, the name of Controller Nodes will be automatically added by 1, such as controller-4, Controll-5, and so on.
