1. Process

Any of the two composite stations in the balanced link can issue a SABM command frame with P = 1, and the link is established after multiple parties answer an unnumbered response frame UA with F = 1. Any station can issue a DISC command frame of p = 1 after the data transmission is finished, and the link will be removed after the other party responds with the unnumbered confirmation frame UA of Fair1.

2. Mode

HDLC is a superset of IBM's synchronous data Link Control procedure (SDLC). SDLC was successfully developed by the BISYNC communication protocol and was originally launched through IBM's system Network Architecture (SNA) product. Another name for HDLC is the Advanced data Communication Control Protocol (ADCCP), which is named by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), but HDLC is more widely accepted by users. Due to different vendors, there is an incompatibility between SDLC and HDLC.
