Why do Linux users like the command line? for this question, this article introduces the corresponding analysis and answer in detail, hoping to help more partners who want to solve this problem to find an easier way.

When I started my own Linux trip, I was determined not to touch the terminal window. It's like there's something disgusting on the command line.

"if I can't do this with GUI, then I'm not even interested in this distribution!" I will stubbornly say.

I was very frustrated when I found all these simple tutorials using command-line instructions on the Internet.

Why did these guys show us how to use the command to exercise the application executable? Why not just find it in the file manager, right-click it, select Properties, go to the permissions tab, and then check the appropriate box to make it executable?

In my opinion, this seems more intuitive. Or maybe it's something that feels "right" after 20 years of Windows.

Use the command line to make bootable USB memory sticks? Launch a terminal window to install drivers or use ffmpeg to encode video? You're crazy?

It was nearly three years ago, and under the pressure of experience, my position has gradually changed. But my early computing era was strikingly similar to that of Oliver Kelly:

"it took me 20 years to use Windows, and the only bright spot since using the command line is ping the IP address or google.com to test and diagnose network problems. I use it all the time in Linux, and I don't even guess it."

This is a sentence in his recently published Community Voice article in Linux For Everyone magazine. Finally, he asks a seemingly difficult question: why do Linux users seem to like the command line so much?

So I thought about Oliver for a while.

Simple answer

A simple answer is to feel ready to use the terminal. Fascinating geek-driven advanced user fantasy satisfaction makes our computers respond to our orders immediately!

Keyboard is more powerful than mouse. Be weaponized as our bid. Convert the word to binary, and then convert the binary to action.

It makes you feel like this:

Another simple answer is, to be honest, it can be faster.

Is sudo apt install vlc audacity obs-studio telegram-desktop Steam a faster way to install than searching for these five applications in the software center of the distribution? Absolutely!

But it's much more than that. A deeper reason

I've realized that the real attraction of the command line is consistency.

Uniformity.

Reliability.

There is a certain degree of comfort.

What the 3-year release jump has learned: no matter which Debian or Ubuntu-based distribution I decide to use on any given day, the installation software will make the same word combination through the same terminal window and make sure it's there.

I don't need to be familiar with file browsers, nor do I need to know how to navigate a particular desktop environment. I just need two things: a simple terminal window and my command.

Roughly the same parameters can be applied to any Arch-based system.

Although I have a new passion for the command line, I always insist on GUI alternatives, especially for new desktop Linux users.

But I want to know if their journey will eventually start like mine. I was taken to the door, and after a while, I found the whole buffet by myself.

I won't use the command line to do everything. Especially not suitable for any video rendering task! I will use it at a reasonable time.

Like Linux, I like free choice.

This is the answer to the question about why Linux users like the command line. I hope the above content can be of some help to you. If you still have a lot of doubts to be solved, you can follow the industry information channel for more related knowledge.
