IOS 12 is not expected to phase out old hardware, such as the iPhone 5s. As the French blog MacGeneration (Google Translate) pointed out for the first time on Friday, WebKit's mailing list refers to a test conducted in January in which the user agent was identified as iOS 12 running on the iPhone 5s simulator, which mimics iPhone 5s hardware in software.

WebKit is the rendering engine behind Safari. Oddly enough, references to iOS 12 devices have recently begun to appear in web logs, including our own website analytics.

9to5Mac observed that if the report is true, iPhone 5s will take longer to update than iPhone 5s and iPhone 5.

Even if iOS 12 does not cut off the use of iPhone 5s, it is not possible to support the advanced features of iOS 12 as in previous versions of iOS. For example, an A10 Fusion chip or later is required to record H.265 encoded video or shoot in the new HEIF image format of iOS 11room2.

IOS will obviously have another moment similar to Snow Leopard.

Mark Goolman of Bloomberg recently reported that Apple's leadership decided to postpone the main features of iOS 12 to focus on performance and bug fixes behind the scenes.
