We have seen that VMAX 10K/20K/40K supports the FTS feature, and it is said to be free. From the functional point of view, VMAX can use the external disk as an internal LUN (eDisk), basically has all the functions of VMAX, so HDS VSP does not have much to attack VMAX, except for the compatibility list VSP should have an advantage.

From the list of supported inventory, although there is still a gap compared with HDS VSP, but the mainstream storage is also supported.

Moreover, VMAX's FAST VP supports the use of external storage as a layer 4.

And in the latest version of Enginuity, external storage can be located at any layer, not just as a fourth layer. That is, if the external storage is SSD, it can also be used as an EFD layer.

FAST VP is considered by EMC to be more refined and efficient than DS8000 and 3PAR.

It seems that there is nothing to compare, but only the size of the particle size.

On EMC WORLD 2013, EMC also announced the extension of VAMX's cache partitioning capabilities from 8 to 16 partitions.

The function of cache partitioning has different views in the industry. Some vendors believe that the current high-end storage to support a large number of users, the use of priority and Icano control, there is no need to support cache partitioning. These vendors think that cache partitioning is not enough, for example, VMAX supports 16 partitions, but what if I have more than 16 users? a high-end can't only have 16 users. At present, the vendors that support cache partitioning are HDS VSP and EMC VMAX,HW HVS. Because they are newcomers, they also support cache partitioning. In fact, there should not be too many applications hosted by high-end storage in many data centers, in which case cache partitioning is still useful. In other words, there is some value under the private cloud, but it is really of little use under the public cloud.

Of course, EMC also supports multi-tenant scenarios.

However, I believe that in this scenario, it should be a better choice to use the host Imax O restriction function, since the number of cache partitions is too limited.

Among the functions implemented in previous versions, I feel that it is good to have two functions.

One is EMC's Autostart software, which can do the local high availability solution, not only the storage can be switched automatically, but also the host can be switched. I don't know if cluster software is required to use this feature.

There is also a user-friendly management function, automatic resource allocation group. It is very convenient to help users configure the mapping of host ports and storage resources.
