System76 has been selling Linux-based laptops and desktops for years, some of which are based on ODM designs and others using original designs. Today, the company has a new high-end workstation laptop that meets almost all your needs and fully supports desktop Linux.

System76 announced on Tuesday (via Ars Technica) the new "Kudu" laptop, which is definitely a desktop replacement for a workstation, not an ultrabook. It measures 14.21x10.16x1.14cm and weighs 4.85lb (2.20kg). It is equipped with a Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, a 15.6in 1080p 144Hz display, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 and a host of ports. System76 says batteries are user-replaceable, which is increasingly rare on laptops.

System76 allows you to configure Kudu with DDR4 RAM up to 64GB and has two NVMe SSD slots with a total capacity of up to 4TB. It's definitely not the lightest laptop, but it's a good choice for anyone looking for a high-end workstation Linux laptop. You can buy it from System76 and pre-install Poppers OS 21.10, Poppers OS 20.04 LTS, or Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, but it should also work with any other desktop Linux distribution (and possibly Windows).

The cheapest configuration of the Kudu costs $1799 and comes with 8GB RAM, Ryzen 7 5900HX, RTX 3060 and 240GB NVMe SSD. This is definitely a little more expensive than most similar Windows workstations or game laptops, but there are not many official options for supporting Linux. The only laptop in the System76 series that is more expensive than the Kudu is the Oryx Pro, which uses the 11th generation Intel i7-11800H CPU and RTX 3070 Max-Q or RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics cards.
