In the image above, RNA X and RNA Y form a ceRNA regulatory relationship by binding the same miRNA. In the case of cell homeostasis, the miRNA bound by X and Y forms a balance. When the expression of Y is down-regulated, the bound miRNA becomes less, resulting in more miRNA binding to X, resulting in a decrease in the expression of X. Similarly, when the expression of Y increases, more miRNA binds to Y, resulting in less miRNA bound to X, and the expression of X increases when the negative regulation becomes weaker.
From the above model, we can see that there are two key points in the ceRNA regulation mechanism. First, the miRNA that the two RNA molecules can bind must intersect, which is the only way to form a competitive relationship. Secondly, the expression of the RNA molecule that constitutes the ceRNA regulation relationship is a positive correlation.
