Bloomberg reported earlier Friday that the personal bank information of thousands of Facebook employees was stolen last month. Some people reportedly stole several unencrypted physical hard drives from Facebook employees' cars, resulting in data leaks. The report shows that the information on the hard drive includes name, bank account number, the last four digits of social security number, salary, bonus amount and net worth details.

The hard drives contain personal data of about 29000 Facebook employees, the report quoted a Bloomberg spokesman as saying. Facebook warned staff on December 13 after it discovered the theft on November 20, the report said. The drive was stolen on November 17.

"We worked with law enforcement agencies to investigate a recent car theft and an employee bag containing the company's salary information," a Facebook spokesman confirmed in an email to CNET. "We found no signs of abuse, believing it was a robbery rather than an attempt to steal employee information."

Facebook added that the people affected were the 2018 payroll, which had access to identity theft and credit monitoring services. The theft did not get any Facebook user data.
