Recently, it was found that the C disk of one of the company's servers has only about 5G of space left. After careful inspection, it is found that the C:\ windows\ winsxs directory accounts for more than 20 gigabytes of capacity. This folder is the result of updating the system patch and cannot be deleted directly, so disk C can only be cleaned through the cleanmgr.exe tool.

The following methods personally verify the success of the cleanup:

First, in Windows Server 2008 R2, right-click disk C, check the properties, and find that there is no tool button to clean disk C in the interface, so how to use the cleaning tool that comes with the system?

Second, the general properties of the drive and the cleanmgr.exe disk cleanup options do not appear in Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 by default and need to be handled manually.

So in order to use cleanmgr.exe, you will need to copy two files that already exist on the server, cleanmgr.exe, and cleanmgr.exe.mui. The specific location of these two files is shown in the following figure:

Find these two files and copy them to the following location:

Copy the Cleanmgr.exe file to c:\ windows\ System32.

Copy the Cleanmgr.exe.mui file to c:\ windows\ System32/zh-CN.

Now you can start the disk cleanup tool by starting-running-typing Cleanmgr.exe, as shown in the following figure:

Wait for the clean-up to finish OK.
