In fact, as early as two or three years ago, robot restaurants were very popular. At that time, a number of service robot restaurants appeared in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other places, where robots served instead of manual workers. However, because the robot technology at that time was not mature enough, some restaurant robots could only run according to the established trajectory, and frequently broke down, resulting in the direct dismissal of robots and the re-use of human employees.
After more than two years of running-in, robots seem to be more and more adept at replacing manual work, with not only robotic arms responsible for serving dishes, but also food delivery robots that distribute products to the dining table, and disabled robots. But in the restaurant scene, the food delivery robot is the most accepted robot in the field of service robots.
From a technical point of view, the restaurant scene poses two tests for robots.
The main function of the food delivery robot is to deliver dishes from the kitchen to the diner's table. Based on the delivery requirements within the scope of this restaurant, technically speaking, the restaurant scene poses two tests for the robot: one is autonomous navigation and positioning to deliver dishes from the distribution room to near the table where the meal is ordered, and the other is to actively avoid obstacles, that is, to avoid pedestrians and obstacles on the way of distribution. These two points correspond to one of the core technologies in the field of service robots-SLAM (Real-time location and Map Construction). At present, in the service robot industry, different SLAM algorithms based on lidar or vision module have emerged one after another. However, at present, visual SLAM is still the mainstream direction of future research, and laser SLAM is a relatively mature positioning and navigation scheme.
