Face ID may eventually enter MacBooks.

Facial recognition is one of them. Once used, everything before it will feel so primitive. It works almost seamlessly, is more secure than competitors' systems, and does not become a burden or hindrance to you. Don't move your finger a few inches toward a specified touch ID point like a barbarian.

Well, that may change soon, because Apple has just applied for a patent for a system like Face ID, which can be implemented on MacBook. As I said last month, this is out of date.

Why the delay?

The patent was filed in 2017, and the release of iPhone X made Face ID a highlight of the day. The basic idea is that the Mac can be equipped with a set of sensors that can detect the vicinity of your Mac, like a dancing elf staring at the bedroom window at night to prevent it from falling asleep.

Interestingly, the patent mentions what happens if the sensor detects someone nearby: "if the object [detected] is a person, the device determines the position of the person relative to the computing device." and change the state in the computing device based on the position of the person relative to the computing device. "

Once you infiltrate the intensive patent presentation, it seems to us to be a systematic description. If it can recognize your face, it may allow you to log on to your Mac. In other words, Mac's facial recognition number.

It seems obvious, and it's a miracle that Apple hasn't realized it yet. However, Apple is never eager to see the obvious. For example, iMac's Magic Keyboard keyboard still doesn't have Touch Bar or touch ID keys (interestingly, the idea is also mentioned in the patent). Rest assured, if there is a feature that seems logical but does not appear in Apple products, Apple will eventually implement it. Maybe. Maybe.

It may be more challenging to integrate face ID into iPhone rather than MacBook, because the former has a much smaller workspace. The space inside the iPhone is limited, and Apple famously had to give up the 3.5mm headphone Jack to make room for other components. In terms of screen space, the iPhone gap may produce more inches (and imitators) than anything Apple has done in the past few years, unless you touch it. If Apple knew what to do, it would trigger a mass aneurysm in the world's tech media.

On MacBook, however, space is less worrying. Apple won't give up the webcam anytime soon, and the extra sensors needed for the Face ID won't take up more space than the webcam.

So what prevents Apple from bringing Face ID to Apple faster? My guess is that it has nothing to do with technical limitations-on the contrary, it is about time.

At WWDC in 2019, Apple unveiled its latest private talking point: signing a contract with Apple. This is a single sign-on system that attempts to combine convenience with rock-solid privacy and security. You do not need to enter a password, but use Face ID or touch ID to log in. Safe, safe, simple.

Think about it: Apple signed a contract with Apple and quickly got a patent, showing that Face ID appears on MacBooks and touch ID appears on iMac. What ingredients are missing here? Password.

Maybe Apple is waiting to bring Face ID to MacBooks until the login with Apple gains traction and the touch ID is integrated into iMac's Magic Keyboard? This will see that all parts of Apple's password war are in place.

Passwords have long been considered a serious weakness in user security. Human beings are lazy creatures, we often choose safety and convenience. We re-use the same password again and again, putting our login credentials and my Ashley Madison VIP account at great risk.

Apple may be developing alternatives. You can log in to your MacBook using Face ID or Apple Watch (something you can use now). You can log in to your iMac using the touch ID button on the magic keyboard. And you log on to the website by logging in to Apple. None of these activities require a password.

Consider that if Apple can claim that it no longer needs to use weak passwords or remember complex passwords, then public relations will be achieved. It will achieve the Holy Grail that has plagued other companies for a long time-convenience and security. We can all continue to be lazy without risking data.

Apple has a reason to do so. Over the past few years, Apple has positioned itself as a defender of user privacy and security. Many of its applications and features, from Apple Maps to MacOS Catalina's find my Apps, encrypt, anonymously or obfuscate your personal data to maintain its confidentiality.

Eliminating the need for passwords may significantly improve the security of Apple's system, thus helping to protect your privacy.

If you have the latest MacBook and Apple Watch, you already know this. If your watch is unlocked, you can just sit at your desk and unlock your Mac-your watch will tell your Mac you know the number and you've logged in. Of course, the recent MacBook comes with a touch ID button, which is another quick alternative to entering a password.

However, facial recognition number is as convenient as Apple Watch login, so there is no need to install another Apple package on your person. Sit down and watch the screen and fanaticism. -you're gone.

Of course, this may never happen; many of the things in Apple's patents have never been put into practice. But if you look at what the company is doing-- from logging in to Apple to its privacy billboard-- you'll see that the patent is more than just a speculative idea from Apple.
