The news of the release time of CentOS 8 was announced yesterday. As the construction work seems to have stalled for nearly a month to make way for CentOS 7.7, it is speculated that the latter will also be released soon. Sure enough, the official website has updated the CentOS 7 version to CentOS 7.7 (1908) the next day, and most of the domestic mirrors have been synchronized.

CentOS 7.7 (1908) release notes allow you to view the release documentation (the Chinese version is being edited). The main contents are as follows:

Major changes

Python 3 is available, and installing python3 will provide Python 3.6.

Bind is updated to 9.11.

Chrony is updated to 3.4.

Since the 1503 release (abrt > = 2.1.11-19.el7.centos.0.1), CentOS-7 can report errors directly to bugs.centos.org, and you can find more data about this feature here.

Known problem

A list of known issues upstream is included here. Since we were created from the same set of source code, most, if not all, of the above problems are likely to occur in CentOS Linux. You can also find information about major updates here.

Some security profiles fully enable repo_gpgcheck within / etc/yum.conf so that the encrypted signature of the relay data of the software library can be verified. Although this setting applies to CentOS software libraries, some third-party software libraries (such as EPEL) do not support relay data signed with GPG. If repo_gpgcheck is enabled, yum attempts to download the signed trunk file repomd.xml.asc. If the file does not exist, yum will output an error message and leave. You may want to remove repo_gpgcheck from / etc/yum.conf, or individually set repo_gpgcheck=0 for software libraries that do not support encrypting signature relay data.

Red Hat has updated the freerdp components to the 2.x branch, and many third-party yum software library components using freerdp must be rebuilt to cope with this change. Components known to be affected include vlc and remmina (both from nux=dextop). You need to wait for the nux-dextop software library to update these components before you update them. If you can't wait, you can choose to exclude freerdp when updating, or delete components that depend on it.

If you use KDE and the default instruction shell is csh or tcsh, you will see the error if: Expression Syntax. This is a known problem. See RHBZ # 1738491 for details and solutions.

If the version is less than 6.0.12 VirtualBox Addons 5.2.32, there will be an error in installing it.

In some configurations, install with basic graphic mode may use text mode instead of basic graphical mode.
