How long will the deleted items be retained?

The exchange mailbox database provides a retention period for deleted items, during which users can recover deleted items without requesting an administrator. After the expiration of the period, the mail will be completely cleared from the mail server, which can be modified according to the actual production situation.

(1) start exchange Management Center, select "Server" in the left navigation, and select "Database" tab on the right.

Enter https:// hostname + domain name / ecp with IE browser, enter domain name, administrator, and enter password to log in

(2) Select the appropriate mailbox database and click the Edit button.

(3) Select the "restrictions" tab in the navigation bar on the left side of the mailbox database page to view the "period of retention of deleted items (days)". By default, exchange retains 14 days.

Restore the specified message

(1) Select "deleted items" in the left navigation bar of the OW client, and click "restore deleted items" in the right pane.

First, we create two users on the domain controller, then go to the mail server to open a mailbox for the user, and send an email to simulate erroneous deletion.

Create a new IT organizational unit and create two users, user01 and user02

Log in with ecp and open mailboxes for user01 and user02

Create a user02 mailbox in the same way

Log in to OWA with a browser and email user02 with user01.

(2) on the pop-up page, check the message to be recovered, and click the "restore" button in the upper left corner.

(3) on the pop-up "restore Project" page, you are prompted that the target location to which the project will be restored is the folder where it was before it was deleted, and click "OK" button.

(4) you can view the recovered messages in the "inbox" of the ow client.

Backing up and restoring exchange data using Windows server backup

Install WSB. The exchang server comes with WSB by default.

WSB backup exchange mailbox database

(1) send an email to the tested mailbox before backup to compare the experimental results

(2) Click "tools"-> "Windows server backup" command in the navigation bar above the server manager to start the WSB console.

(3) Select "Local backup" in the left pane, and click "one-time backup" in the right "actions" pane to start the one-time backup wizard.

(4) on the backup options page, click the "other options" radio button, and then click the "next" button.

(5) on the "Select backup configuration" page, click the "customize" radio button, and then click the "next" button

(6) on the "Select items to back up" page, click the "add Project" button, select disk C where the exchange mailbox database is located in the pop-up "Select items" dialog box, and then click the "OK" button.

(7) on the "Select items to back up" page, click the "Advanced Settings" button, pop up the "Advanced Settings" dialog box, select the "VVS Settings" tab, click the "VVS full backup" radio button, and then click the "OK" button.

(8) after confirming that the summary information to be backed up is correct, click the "next" button.

(9) on the "specify destination type" page, select the location where you want to store the backup as "Local Drive", and then click the "next" button.

(10) on the "Select backup destination" page, select the newly added hard drive and click the "next" button.

(11) on the confirmation page, check the summary information for the backup settings, and then click the backup button

(12) you can view the status and progress of the backup operation on the "backup Progress" page, and click the "close" button when you are finished.

Restore exchange mailbox database

(1) delete the test messages in the user01 mailbox

(2) dismount mailbox database, select mailbox database, click. Button and select the dismount option from the pop-up menu

(3) simulate the failure and delete all database files and log files under the folder where the mailbox database is located.

(4) restore mailbox database

1. Open the WSB console, select Local backup in the left pane, click restore in the actions pane on the right, and start the restore Wizard

two。 On the start page of the recovery wizard, indicate the location of the backup storage to be used for the restore, click the "this server" radio button, and then click the "next" button.

3. On the Select backup date page, the system will find the available backups and display them in bold on the calendar. Select the backup date and time for recovery, and click the next button.

4. On the Select recovery Type page, click the Files and folders radio button, and click the next button

5. On the Select items to restore page, select the folder where the mailbox database is located, and then click the next button

6. On the "specify recovery options" page, restore the target option "original location". When the wizard finds that some items to be backed up already exist in the restore target, select "overwrite the existing version with the version to be restored". Click the next button

7. View the recovery summary information on the confirmation page and click the restore button after confirming that it is correct

8. Display the recovery progress in the form of a progress bar on the recovery Progress page, and click the close button when you are finished

(5) load mailbox database

1. Open the exchange Administration Center, select the database that previously reported an error, and click. Button and select the load option from the pop-up menu

two。 After successfully loading the mailbox database, log in to the mailbox on the client side, and you can see that the previously deleted test messages have been restored.
