This article mainly explains "how to install and use Remmina under Linux". Interested friends may wish to have a look. The method introduced in this paper is simple, fast and practical. Let's let the editor take you to learn how to install and use Remmina under Linux.
Remmina is a free, open source, feature-rich and powerful remote desktop client under Linux and other Unix-like systems, written in GTK+ 3. It is suitable for system administrators and travelers who need remote access and use many computers.
Install Remmina on Linux
First, you need to install Remmina on the host you use to access other computers remotely. If you are using Fedora, you can install Remmina by running the following command:
Sudo dnf install-y remmina
If you want to install Remmina on a different Linux platform, follow the installation tutorial. Then you will find that Remmina is showing up with your other software (Remmina is selected in this picture).
Click the icon to run Remmina, and you should see a screen like this:
Remmina provides different kinds of connections, including RDP for connecting to Windows systems and VNC for connecting to Linux systems. As you can see in the upper left corner of the image above, the default setting for Remmina is RDP. [/ yiji] Connect to Windows 10 [/ yiji] before you connect to a Windows 10 computer through RDP, you must modify permissions to allow sharing of remote desktops and establishing a connection through a firewall.
Note: Windows 10 Home Edition does not include RDP features
To allow remote desktop sharing, right-click "my computer → Properties → remote Settings" in the File Manager interface, then in the pop-up window, check "allow remote connections on this computer", and then click "apply".
Then, allow remote connections to pass through your firewall. First look for Firewall Settings in the start menu and select allow applications to pass through the firewall.
In the open window, under "allowed applications and features", find remote Desktop. Check the "Privacy" and / or "Public" columns as appropriate, depending on the network you use to access this desktop. Click OK.
Go back to the Linux computer you used to remotely access the Windows host and open Remmina. Enter the IP address of your Windows host and press enter. How do I determine my IP address in Linux and Windws? When prompted, enter your user name and password and click OK.
If you are asked if you want to accept the certificate, click OK.
You should now be able to see your Windows 10 host desktop.
Connect to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
To allow remote access on your RHEL7 computer, turn on all Settings on the Linux desktop.
Clicking the share icon opens a window like this:
If screen sharing is off, click. A window will pop up and you can slide to the "open" position. If you want to allow remote control of the desktop, set allow remote Control to Open. You can also choose between two access options: one allows the primary user of the computer to accept or reject the connection request, and the other can authenticate the connection with a password. At the bottom of the window, select the network interface to which you are allowed to connect, and finally close the window.
Next, open Firewall Settings from the Application menu → other → Firewall.
Check the box next to "vnc-server" (as shown below) to close the window. Then go directly to Remmina on your remote computer, enter the IP address of the Linux desktop you want to connect to, select VNC as the protocol, and click enter.
If the authentication option you selected earlier is "New connection must ask for access permission", RHEL system users will see a pop-up window like this:
Click accept to successfully connect remotely.
If you choose to authenticate the connection with a password, Remmina will ask you for your password.
Enter the password and "confirm", you should be able to connect to the remote computer.
Use Remmina
Remmina provides the tagged UI shown above, just like a browser. In the upper-left corner of the image above, you can see two tags: one is the previously established WIndows 10 connection, and the other is the new RHEL connection.
On the left side of the window, there is a toolbar with options such as Zoom window, full screen Mode, preferences, Screenshot, disconnect, and so on. You can explore for yourself and see what suits you.
You can also create a saved connection by clicking the "+" sign in the upper left corner. According to your connection, fill out the form and click "Save". The following is an example of an Windows 10 RDP connection:
The next time you open Remmina, the connection will be there.
Click on it and you can establish a connection without adding details.
Supplementary explanation
When you use remote desktop software, all your operations consume resources on the remote desktop-Remmina (or similar software) is just a way to interact with the remote desktop. You can also access a computer remotely through SSH, but that will limit you to text-only terminals on that computer.
You should also note that when you allow your computer to connect remotely, it will also cause you serious losses if an attacker gains access to your computer in this way. So when you don't use remote desktops frequently, it's wise to disable remote desktop connections and their related services in the firewall.
