In the previous article, I roughly shared the new features of Exchange 2019 and my general introduction to the environment in which I tested Exchange 2019. The installation process is shared in detail below. Overall, Exchange 2019 is much easier to install on WIndows server core than in previous versions, and there is no need to install a bunch of IIS components with the Powershell command before installation.

First, prepare the server

Before installing the Exchange server, you need to install the server operating system, then configure the server IP address, gateway, DNS, and turn on the remote desktop.

Configure IP addr

New-NetIPAddress-InterfaceIndex 6-IPAddress 192.168.12.123-PrefixLength 24-DefaultGateway 192.168.12.100

Configure DNS

Set-DNSClientServerAddress-InterfaceIndex 6-ServerAddress "192.168.12.121"

Enable remote Desktop

Cscript C:\ Windows\ System32\ Scregedit.wsf / ar 0

I won't say any more about these configurations. Because all the operations of the WIndows Core server are done in command mode. (for more information, please refer to: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/exchange/2018/07/26/deploy-exchange-server-2019-on-windows-server-core/) * since the virtual machine I tested is an Azure virtual machine, I configured the subnet and DNS information, and the IP address, gateway and DNS are automatically configured after the Azure virtual machine is installed. *

Second, install the necessary components

The components required for installation on Windows server 2016 core and WIndows Server 2019 core systems have been mentioned earlier. This article is mainly installed on WIndows server 2016 Core.

1. Server plus domain

After starting WIndows server 2016 core, enter: start Powershell directly in dos command mode

Use the command: Add-Computer-DomainName Itservice.vip-NewName ex2019-DomainCredential itservice\ administrator

After the domain is added successfully, restart the server using the command Restart-Computer-force.

2. Install the necessary components

In the course of my re-testing, I first downloaded all the installation media and components on a Windows server 2016 GUI server, and then copy to the Windows server 2016 core via network copy. Since the UNC path is not supported in cmd command mode, you must switch to Powershell to access the UNC path. The specific method of copying files is as follows.

1), install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013

No reboot is required to install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013.

2) install the desktop experience component

Before installing UCMA, you need to install the desktop experience component first, and after the desktop experience is complete, you need to restart the server.

3) install UCMA

Use the command in Powershell: Mount-DiskImage c:\\ ExchangeServer2019-x64.iso to mount the Exchange 2019 installation ISO into the virtual optical drive. Go to the UCMARedist directory and run Setup.exe

4), install .net 4.7.1

Use the command:.\ NDP471-KB4033342-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe / Q / log c:\ exchange201901\ net_4_7.txt

Install .net 4.7.1 silently.

Because it is a silent installation, you want to know if the installation of. Net 4.7.1 is complete. You can view the last contents of the log file using the command: start notepad c:\ exchange201901\ net_4_7.txt. After installing .net 4.7.1, the server restarts automatically.

3. Install Exchang 2019

Use the command:

.\ Setup.exe / m:install / roles:m / IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms / InstallWindowsComponents

It took me more than an hour to complete the installation.

4. Manage Exchange 2019

After installation, if you do not want to use command mode to manage Exchange 2019, you can use the WEB webpage ECP Management Center to manage it. If you want to use Exchange Powershell to manage the server, you can start Exchange 2019 Powershell in two ways

1) enter the command in Powershell: lauchems

2) enter the command in Powershell: Add-pssnapin-name * exchange*

At this point, the preview version of Exchange 2019 is installed.

The version number of Exchange server 2019 is Version 15.2 (Build 196.0), and the large version is still 15.x, so the general function is not much different from that of Exchange 2013.
